just put your keywords in google and look at the top three results. Look at their onpage SEO - check the page title and footer for site map, and links. Look at their content. Next put them in Open site explorer and look at their backlinks.

Don't put much stock in the software that checks to see how many pages in the universe have that keyword somewhere on their site. That's not your competition: those top three sites are your competition.

If their onpage Seo is slack, you can beat them. If there onpage is tight, but they lack backlinks, you can beat them.

For Determine the Best keywords for your Niche you have to perform keyword analysis! simply put your keywords on Google and sorted out the best sites and perform keyword analysis for their meta tags, content back links etc!

In Search Engine Optimization Content is the king! So Focus on Fresh and Unique content as well!
