First of all is social bookmarking still effective?

And lastly, how is everyone actually doing their social bookmarking, bookmarking demon? etc.

Hi Social Bookmarking is the best way to promote your website and lot's of bookmarking sites available with high page rank so in my opinion bookmarking is the best.

I blast sites with 1000+ social bookmarks for anchor/IP diversity. Then I blast inner pages for some easy deep linking as well.

Social bookmarks alone won't frontpage you for competitive keywords. When used in combination with other (higher value) links, they're very powerful.

How are you managing to blast your sites with 1000 + social bookmarks, and what do you mean by IP diversity. By blasting are you essentially just trying to get your site indexed, plus all of your inner pages?

Ive gotten lazy. I just let Feedburner post to my Twitter, Twitter posts to Facebook and I will manually post to Stumbleupon and Digg in an organic matter. Seems to work a for getting pages indexed fast while stumbles and diggs build credibility. Ohh and can't forget Google Plus. I do it manually too since I want it to appear as organic as possible.

Definitely social bookmarking really be very helpful for getting more links to the site and that is with the fast results. But you need to provide the unique description and appropriate keyword or title to get the more results.

Yes, I have heard this from quite a lot of people that descriptions should all be unique and of course you will be needing appropriate anchors etc, depending on whether it's a new site, old site etc.

Less variations on the anchors for aged sites, and high variations of anchor texts with new sites.

From SEO perspective , i don't thing they are much valuable , however they can be used for indexing purposes. I use them for the same purpose. They are quite effective at that.

I always run a new article that I post through a cheap social bookmark distribution service and I find that Google will index my page usually with in an hour or so. It seems to work well and depending on the keyword some of these pages rank rather high without any other backlinking. That is not the case though with more competitive keywords as they need more muscle than social alone.

So far I have noticed the same, it won't rank sites alone, but it helps to index a site, and it's inner pages quicker than normal.
