I was wondering how long it usually takes for a site to get indexed, I have a domain that is almost a year old and just sat for like 10 months with a stupid welcome page on it. I have submited a site map for the new site (it is small 11 page site) and I am link building. I was wondering how long I could expect to wait until google notices? Should I submit the URL in some way to tell them I added content? |

if your link building it could be in 1 hour. but you need to be getting quality links from good sites. if the site linking to you is high quality, then google will crawl them everyday, so they will find you easily and crawl you too. No need to tell them you added content, you just need to keep up a weekly linking campaign. Plus on the website it self, have links to those new pages. The other thing is, what keywords are you targeting? because really its all about being seen as a revelant site to that topic, so you get indexed in the right spots Cheers |

I am targeting a few not very competitive keywords, but I am pushing really hard, because I believe they will become more competitive in the near future. I have been all over trying to build links, plenty of directories, lots of local stuff. I do blog comments sometimes using the anchor text. A Any advice for a noob? |

The quickest way to get a page indexed is linking from a website with decent authority in googles idea. Try twitter, facebook, even youtube (in a description). These sites get crawled huge amounts of times each day. Remember there will be a delay between when a site gets indexed and where the new content is shown in the search engines. The reason for this, is that these are two seperate processes that get actioned by Google at different times. No need to submit a URL, this is almost never needed or recommended. When did google last visit your page? If you submitted the sitemap via google webmaster tools login there and check the last crawl date and see if any errors occured. If not, be patient it will get updated! Cheers |

If you are submitting your new sitemaps thru Google Webmaster tools, and choosing to have it re-download it immediately, you can usually start getting indexed in an hour, with 24 hours or so to start finding your pages in the rankings.

Just Ping your sites. Post comment in a few related blogs. Add it to your signature. You will be indexed in a few hours. |

You can get your site indexed faster by getting quality backlinks (before you´re launching your site) for many of your pages, not for only homepage..

The completion of Google's new and fast indexing system (Google Caffeine) makes it really fast for site to get indexed. And there are news about some updates that Google has made to make a site indexed faster than before. I have seen a site got indexed in just 1 hour after it has been launched. So I think there's no need to worry about indexing your site. |

Starting to think it is a bigger problem than just getting indexed, I think i have a redirect set up incorrectly or something along those lines. There were a couple of pages left on the domain, and after I removed those I know only have one indexed page.
