well guys this happens ever so frequently to my customers site and now its happening to one of my site that is ranked top 5 for a very competitive keyword. did a lot of link building and the site disappeared from the serps altogether. a check using "site:www.domain.com' revealed that my site is there in google and as such isnt banned. from my past experience with client sites, after the dance, the ranking comes up stronger. for those of you whose heart is beating like mine, check this out: Google Dance - Frequently Asked Questions the next question on my mind: when will the google dance stops and when will i see the new stablised ranking? just wanted to let off some rantings here. |

Hi Xaby. In my experience the dance usually lasts a few weeks but can last for up to a few months (I agree the site will often come back stronger). Lately I've noted quality, contextual backlinks are helpful in ranking so it may be worth including some legitimate, high quality links, social media and web 2.0s in your backlink campaign.

If the site is brand new, it may be sometime before it stops and becomes more stable. The newer the domain the more likely in my experience to see these fluctuations. It's important to realise that calculations are happening in real time with rankings and to a certain degree you can expect a bit of bounce, particularly when you first start ranking for a keyword. I would suggest you spend some time reviewing your content on the page, more so that just links. I am finding more and more that the content is playing a big part in my rankings and the quality and amount of content seems to be making a difference. Again, spending some time making your site look like a real site with substantial content will do more for your rankings than backlinks in my experience. This is only a relatively new phenomena. Personally I think it's good. The best content should be the deciding factor in rankings in my opinion and not just who can get the best/most links. Cheers Tim |

As long as you update your site, build high quality links and increase social influence, Google dance will give you better ranking |
