Hi everyone. So I noticed that someone had stole my content, and I found it by typing some of my sentences in " " on Google. Will this affect my SEO ranking since now there is duplicate content out there? Should I just recreate everything on the page? I've left a comment on the person's page to take his content out but I'm sure that won't do anything. Any suggestions? |

You can send him some DMCA warning or something a like and tell him you will inform his host about it, Google for it. It would be ridiculous that you have to change your content cause someone stole it.

Off site Duplicate content penalty is a myth. The only time you would get penalized is if you have continuous duplicate content on your own site. If they stole your content and it still has a link back to your site, then AWESOME. If it doesn't, then ask him to either include on, or take it down. But all in all, it's not going to hurt you. -- Jeff |

Check for a "contact us" section, or WHOIS the domain. If that doesn't work, then I think you can send the DMCA notice to the host (I haven't sent many take-down notices, so I might be wrong about that). PS: sorry this mostly mirrored what the above said. I had this page sitting in a tab for a few minutes, and theverysmartguy didn't respond yet. |

Doesn't this fall under SOPA? When/if that is approved, then you just tell a judge that you have been illegally copied and you will be able to shut down that site in no time, no questions asked. Muahahaha!Seriously... Don't worry. Since it is (was ) your content, you were probably indexed first. If there will be any penalties, it will be for those copying your content.E-commerce companies have loads of duplicate content. They tend to just pull in ready made product feeds with all the product descriptions, product names, images etc. The key is to be able to create unique content on a regular basis. One or a few duplicated article(s) won't do neither this nor that to your ranking IMHO. Good luck! |

Google has an algo that determines who is the original content poster, then it deindexed (I think) the copied content

I am not sure if google actually deindexes copied content, I just know that they can easily determine who is the original content producer, and I THINK they penalize the copier

I've copied public domain content (old books) on SEO test sites & have out ranked the public domain sites I got the content from, including Google Books. My test sites were never deindexed.

| This is why it is so important to put a link back to your site in the body of your article text. |

| Agreed, it's a good idea to have a link to another page in the first sentence of your article/content. That way even If the scraper only displays a text snippet on his site, you'll still get a backlink/credit for the article they scraped from your site.

Same thing happened to me. I would imagine most article writers have (or will) experience the content thief. There is a form DCMA on this forum. My content has links but that doesn't stop the thieves - they simply remove my links and claim the content as their own. I'll never forget the first time I did a google search and found my content. I was livid. Thanks to this forum, I was gently persuaded not to spend too much time being pissed off. I found the owner, sent him/her an email. GGPaul, don't spend too much time being angry. Just do what you can to contact the owner and send the notice. |

Or, what if the copier says the OP stole the content? SOPA is funny that way. Once SOPA goes through, I think scrapers are going to be the big winners.

Honestly, it's not worth your time to try and get them to take it down. People will take your content, it's inevitable. Trying to fight it is generally a waste of time that could be spent growing your business. |

I have had articles stolen and reprinted word for word. I have had articles stolen and badly spun. I stopped looking for them as it got my blood pressure up too high. I did report one to google and they sent me a letter saying the page would be removed "shortly" whatever that means. I used to put my articles on ezine with just a resource box link but now I put the links in the article so that the link, hopefully, will stay as the scrapers seem to be able to scrape without the resource box. |

A whole long thread and nobody suggested this? Add your site to Webmaster Tools and fill out this form: https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...ce?pli=1&hl=en I've used it hundreds of times now, and they always take action within 8 hours to 3 business days. They manually review the request, and approve it (or not). Upon approval, the infringing URLs is removed from Google. If it's a wordpress scraper, be sure to submit their category, homepage and archive pages as well ..not just the single post page. Use this one if they have Adsense on the Pages with your content https://support.google.com/adsense/b...complaint&rd=1 This one is extremely effective. Since adsense notifies them and they quickly remove the content to avoid being banned. I've also used that several times, and in a few cases I got the infringer's adsense account banned. Tough for them, but I really have zero pity for people who copy others' work. The problems I have now are people who copy huge paragraphs of content to their youtube video descriptions. The links above don't work for google properties such as youtube & blogger. They refer you to the departments for them. Youtube DMCA for written content is a joke. They don't remove anything. |

A few stolen articles won't hurt your site. You're ranking should be fine.

Happens all the time, and has happened to me many times. As long as your article was crawled and indexed FIRST, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. No need to waste time contacting all these webmasters who probably don't care about those sites they have duplicate content on.

Example, you could copy & paste this entire forum thread onto your sites page & out rank the forum thread in the SERPs. Just because someone post the original content first doesn't mean they will rank in the SERPs. The scraper site can rank first in the SERPs, it just depends on who wants to rank the keyword.

First of All He Stole your Site Content not You! Google indexed your site content first and then his site! So Google knows that your site has fresh content so it would not penalized your site! Try To make some qualitative back links as well which facilitates you to boost your search engine rankings as well! |
