Default If you want to go after top position in very difficult niche…Do you know what to do?

So, as in title I want to get on first position in rather difficult niche (health, weight loss and food related). First position is taken by 15 year old website with PR 6 with thousand of backlinks and webpages.

Next positions are of medium difficulty and I can beat them easily I think (I know topic very well and I know that I can make much better content than those guys).

Main phrase I going for is 27000 local monthly search with CPC at about USD 2,5-3. There are more secondary keywords of course, some with much better CPC.

I own exact domain name (.com) which is 3 years old, it was PR 3 with 67 PR2 and PR3 backlinks.

I know that top website is very established but I have noticed that they are somehow old and a bit out of date with their content. They don’t use facebook, youtube, blogs and forums and so on. They are kind of XX century sluggish website (which is good for me I think).

Moreover, whole website theme is build around one man who is actually outdated also (well, in my view at least).

So, how do you think should I try my best to kick them out of the position or is better to stay away and try other niche?

I know it will eventually take time and effort to get there and I’m ok with it.

What do you think fellows?

With little work you will get at page 2 or page 3. In such hard niches going futher is difficult, unless you get some really good high PR links from related / authority websites.

It's not just the matter of examining the incoming links based on their PR scores because many times, the reason behind top ranking status of many sites can be due to links pointing at them, even if they come from zero PR pages, but since they are originated from highly relevant sources, and preferably are powered with the expected anchor texts, so their impacts on ranks would be just amazing. Your site can experience boost in rank through content addition too.

Although content alone will not lead to top ranks most of the time, because links are still required to point at websites, but a combination of original contents plus links will even help defeat the older domains which have been at the top of search sites for months and years. Try to write in a way to be liked by your net audience, many times writing quality reviews on products sold on websites can be one way of adding to the weight of domains, helping them to have better ranks.

Bermuda, Thank you for your participation, I think that original content is a good way to go in this case. Links are important of course but I have to get a lot of happy visitors and I need them to stay on my website as long as possible (bounce rate will be crucial this time…).

So, right content is probably the most important thing I have to take care about so Google can see that people actually do like my site.

It will be typical info site, do you have any other suggestions on how to beat well established website?
