Default Keyword research

What about a keyword having 3000 local and 100000 global searches with medium competition. I chose a keyword with 20000 local and far more global searches but I think I've made a mistake because my site being on 3rd locally doesn't get 30 visitors a day.

I use keyword tool to analyze. What are other good methods to select a keyword?

You should be checking the TOP10 and looking at those sites existing backlinks and their pageranks.

# of competition means nothing these days. I can rank a site with 2 billion competition yet have a harder time getting into the top10 for a KW with only 1 million competition due to the ferocity of the TOP10.

Always do your competition research to determine the level of difficulty in the top10. These automated programs like market samurai might give you an idea, but if you are just using them without taking a look for yourself you are losing out.

Here's a GREAT free keyword research tool as well:

first i would like to ask you which keyword tool you have used? If you have used Google Keyword tool then whether the search volume is for broad or exact search. If it is for broad, check the exact search volume as it differs hugely. Generally a keyword having millions of searches in "Broad match" has only a few thousand searches in "Exact Match".

Yeah, you have to make sure you have exact ticked. Also you say you are 3rd locally. Does your keyword get 20000 searches locally to you or locally in America?

There's no broad or exact search option I guess. However I checked and confirmed that my keyword has that number of searches.

HI
The simple way to choose the keyword is to check the competition, the keyword with low competition and high search result is always good.

To find the best profitable keywords you need to keep digging deep for keywords that have top searches (high demand) but with few pages existing on the web for it. This ensures that when you do start a blog and build pages using those keywords you can easily rank for them even without building much links. In every competitive niche there are always smaller sub-topics that get decent search but not competitive. Only when you know how to find good keywords and apply them to your site and pages will you succeed on the internet.

I always do my keyword research from checking my competitors keywords.

Make keyword research manually. As keyword is the word which been used by people for their query. So try to find out such words in your field which been more used by people for their queries and make use of those words as your keywords so this way you can get more better keyword and with that keyword position. But be careful in providing the quality and useful content with your keyword and then only you can get more benefit.
