Actually, there are many benefits of those social networking sites.
You have to *see* that many people there equals to MARKET!

And for SEO, you can provide your social friends some information that is linked to your site regularly. Just think, what will happen to your site if you have thousands of social friends and you provide them one or two informations that linked to your site and their visit the link? Your site will get many visitors just in a day without doing hard effort.
