keyword.company.com and company.com/keyword

I rarely see keyword.company.com as URL
I think majority of us use wordpress so we don't see this kind of URL.

They use this as if it's a single product page in wordpress
In wordpress usually we use company.com/product-name-keyword as in blog post/page
or sometimes company.com/product-categories/product-name-keyword

In term of SEO, does it have any advantages or disadvantages compare to
the regular company.com/keyword?
