Default Why do people still buy high OBL .edu links?

It is practically common knowledge by now that a link on a page with high OBL is worthless for two reasons: it rolls off the page, and PR is shared so it will barely get any when it's sharing with thousands of other links.

Now the question is, why is the high OBL .edu links market still lucrative? Are people still getting SERP improvements from cheap, poor quality .edu links often sold in small quantities?

People that buy these gigs probably have no clue about factors like OBL, they just see edu links and read some time that edu links are more valuable then other links.

My guess is, it's the low bidders on outsourced SEO projects, & their clients have no idea about SEO.

Because of all the guides, ebooks, WSOs and sales pages that rave about the benefits of getting EDU backlinks.

Shambles.

There is still SERP improvements from those .edu domains, especially if they are dofollow and have a high PR.

Just like any other link from any other page that meets that criteria. EDU has nothing to do with it.

Shambles.

Simple answer. Most people are dumb.

I do not mean dumb in that the are stupid. I mean they lack the knowledge to know that .edu links have no extra value than any other links.

Anyone that says otherwise is either dumb or selling .edu links.

EDU domains carry more weight & authority because they are not commercial in nature and not considered "spammy".

Even if they are dumb, surely they would notice that the spam edu links aren't doing them good, right?

I've noticed gains using .edu links even with high OBL's. Obviously you will get more 'bang' out of ones with less obl's or higher pagerank, but my strategy has always been diversity.

If they buy .edu links with 25+ OBL, then probably they have no idea what OBL is ...
