No web Traffic in one year-why?

I built a web site on educational test. My domain contains that key word.GOOGLE shows31 million results in its search. GOOGLE ranks my site some where between 35-40. I am receiving zero traffic against that main key word for the last one year. Overall Average traffic per day is 15-20. I am disappointed and tired of such huge amount of hard work I have put in developing this website. I want to get 1000 visitors per day. Pl help.

Let me be sure I follow. You're ranking on page three and you want to know why you're not getting traffic? Hint: some keywords are hard, and some nigh on impossible

How about detailing what you've done, and perhaps someone can come up with ideas?

Some are good at gauging competition. A PM to someone who offers with your keywords could be very enlightening.(not me, I'm too newb to judge it)

Kashif! Remember one thing! To take your site on top ranked at Google on your targeted keyword(s) and to take traffic to your site, both are two separate things. It doesn't mean that if your site comes at 1st position at Google on your desired keyword(s) then it also have lots of traffic. First of all tell me that is there any method(s) do you use to get the traffic? If so then please mention.

1. May be the main keyword in your site got duplicated in many pages. If so please optimize your site properly.
2. Do you have any duplicate content in your site. If so please remove it.
3.Have you done any promotion for your website? If not you an hire a free link building serviceand do promotion.
4.Check out from country the visitors for your site are coming and compare it with internet world statistics from a site tofocus.info

Firstly, forget about how many results Google shows, it's an irrelevant number.

Secondly, do you actually know how much exact traffic searches for that keyword in Google?

Thirdly, did you know that over 90% of people don't click to page 2?

I don't even want to know how small the percentage is that clicks on page three.

Do you see now why you don't get traffic.

If you need 1,000 unique visitors per day from one keyword you need to find a keyword which has over 60,000 EXACT MATCH searchers per month and you need to RANK POSITION 1 ON THE FIRST PAGE! This will ensure you get around 50% of the traffic - ie; 1,000 per day.

Achievable, but you need to know your stuff.

why is it irrelevant? that's quite a bold statement to make don't you think?

it's like telling a business owner it's irrelevant how big his potential market/competition is.. rule number 1 of business down the drain..................
