Default SEO Question

I'm helping a client of mine get ranked for some very competitive terms.

He is currently ranked in the top 1-3 for a keyword that gets 2.7 million searches a month according to the Google tool. However his site doesn't get much traffic for the keyword even though he is usually ranked #1 when you do a search.

Could it be that the description of the site is not what people searching for that term are interested in?

Is it because people aren't looking for that term directly, but only with additional keywords included with it? For example "SEO" vs "SEO Company"?

What could the reason be?

The simple reason is most likely to be that you are looking at the wrong search figures.

I bet that 2.7 million searches are "broad match" searches.

You need to look at the "exact match" figures to get a much more accurate idea of actual search volume.

Are you talking about 2.7 million broad searches? What are the exact search results?

Destiny is not a matter of chance, it's a matter of choice.

Right, I forgot to click the "Exact" match type on the left. It makes more sense now.

What are the exact match figures? The difference can often be HUGE.

Yep, huge difference. It's 165,000 global and just 22,000 in the US.

22000 LMS is still pretty good.

Using the calculation that #1 position will get around 40% of clicks, that works out to be 8800 visits per month or around 294 visitors per day.

Is that the sort of figures your client is seeing?

Yes, that's pretty close to what he gets.
