Arrow Going after Competitor's Brand Keyword? Quick Question for those than can help.

This is an example: If I optimize a site for "Ford Houston" on-page, and my competitor's dealership name is "Brightstone Ford Houston" And I do SEO work and build links using the keyword, "Brightstone Ford Houston", but link it to my site.. Can I effectively rank for their search term? Would love, love, love to see my company right under their results. Only issue I see its not using "Bridgtsone" for example anywhere on the website.. Leaving one major word out..

Thanks, I know it might be possible, but just want to get another opinion..

Yes with enough backlinks you can rank for a similar combination of terms, even if your page doesn't mention one of three.

The real question is ...is it really worth it? Is it really worth the risk of having your whole site penalized? Would doing it bring in more sales ?

How could my site get penalized? If I'm just adding in one more keyword.. Also would it bring in more sales? Yes, a lot. But can't risk the site getting penalized.. Hmm.

Yes you could rank. It would be difficult though as you don't have the keyword on your site. You might want to see what the LSI is for that keyword.

EG: How to Cook A Steak = How To "FRY" a Steak.

There might be an alternative keyword to use instead of Bridgestone that you could rank as bridgestone.

What I meant with the above is that sometimes the Top 10 In SERPS are the same for different LSI.

It's possible to do it and I don't believe there's any chance your site would get penalized from that.

Considering its a local key term it shouldn't be too much trouble ranking, but not having that keyword on your page somewhere might pose a problem.
