While the seo boogymen will tell us that we can't build links too fast, has anyone ever stopped to think what "too fast" really implies? Many of the top link building WSO's promise around 100 drip feed links per day. Is a 100 links spread out throughout the day any less dangerous then 100 links all built within an hour or so? I say no... So link velocity is the speed at which you get links. If you build the same amount of links and more over time then that's link acceleration. My topic addresses many of the massive link building efforts over the course of a day. 1000 is a lot of links to built in less then 24 hours. Does anyone really think building 250-300 links per day (even from fiverr) is going to get you sandboxed? Anyone have any experience? |

Link Velocity, Link Acceleration... they are both total BS. The ONLY people that promote keeping some kind of stupid link velocity are people selling low quality links (forum profile links especially). Why? Because it is completely unnatural for a site to all of a sudden have 10,000 members of 10,000 different forums link to a website from their profile of all places. Any other concerns about link velocity are complete bull****. Google does not care. Sites get massive amounts of links in to a post about a hot topic in just a few days all the time. A great example... When the story about that assclown Jerry Sandusky broke, for weeks a local paper in Harrisburg (The Patriot News), of which 99.99% of people in the United States never heard of, was getting swamped with links from all over the country. I would bet they had more links come in to stories on their website in 4 weeks than they did in the previous 4 years combined. They did not get indexed. There were not told they had to go play in some stupid sandbox. Link velocity is only promoted by low quality backlink providers. |

Thanks Mike but I'm not quite sure what the conclusion from your post is? Are you saying that building 100's of links per day isn't bad? Also is sounds like you're saying that neither link velocity or acceleration matter. Just build them? |

I'm saying link velocity does not matter unless you are building extremely low quality backlinks. With really low quality backlinks, it doesn't improve your ranking faster or anything like that by maintaining some artificial number of links per day. You are just trying to keep under Google's radar.

He's saying that its not the quantity of your links that get you into trouble its the quality. If you get a thousand links naturally from various sources within content (what google calls editorial) its not going to do anything but good but 20,000 forum links are spammy and obviously so so you can get dinged by Google. Problem is whenever anybody talks about getting links they confuse it with BUILDING links. Right now Imers are dominated by the idea of placing their own links on sites that allow you to drop anchor text and URl and not much more. Getting links is much wider than forum, web 2.0, profiles, bookmarks and article directories. the name of the game post panda is contextual links even more than it was before and the software and service providers can't punch those out in the thousands. |

If all of your other metrics match "the fingerprint" that correlates with 250-300 links per day, then you should be fine. If you don't know what they are and/or can't control the "other metrics", then your question is completely relative. BTW. Mathematically... LV = Links/Unit of Time LA = Links/(Unit of Time)^2

Or I can put it this way... If you have to do something additional to make sure the link gets indexed, it is probably pretty low quality.

No idea. As far as I know - if you drop a link and a brick, they both hit the floor at the same time.
