My website was listed on the second page of Google. So I made some backlinks a few minutes ago to increase my ranks. Now that I look, I am nowhere to be seen. Is this normal? Please help...

I think you need a longer term strategy. New site will often get better placings but they will slip back to a more natural placing over time.

Angela's backlinks are great. I am a subscriber myself. Thanks for the answer.

New sites get a bump, because they are new. Anything new is treated as news, which means that it may be important today, but not necessarily important tomorrow.
Depending on your niche, you can hit page one or page two quickly and then fade quickly, or you can hit page one or page two and maintain that for a bit. It really depends on how entrenched your competition is ahead of you. In time, your growing backlinks number should positively influence your rankings, depending on a whole host of criteria. A few backlinks in and of themselves cannot guarantee your site great rankings, but they do help in any case. Suppose you are in a niche such as travel. I have two blogs in the travel sector. If I were to invest substantial resources into trying to rank for the keyword travel, I would be spending tons of money with little hope for success, since I would be trying to directly compete with major corporations such as Expedia, Hotwire, and other major travel companies. I don't even break the top 1000 results for the search term "travel", but I rank extraordinarily well for a few long tail keywords, such as "disney deals recession" (top of page one), "walt disney amusement park package deals" (top of page one), and to a lesser extent, "disney amusement park package deals" (page two). These three examples are just a few of the dozens of key phrases I rank well for at this time. The site in this example is less than three months old. Building inbound links was essential to the marketing of this website. And for the record, I use article marketing to build inbound links for all of my sites, as the primary source of my links. |
