What is the basic difference between visit and hits?

I wanna know. And what is the relation of visits and hits of any site with SEO. Is well SEOed site means the site have more visits or more hits?

A Hit is an action that happens on your server (image loading, page loading).

A Visit is what happens when a unique visitor visits your website.

For example: my website had 30,000 unique visitors, 42,000 visits among them, and 1.5 million hits on the server.

I have a blog on money making which is on wordpress platform.
Making Money with blogs | My Archive
This blog has 126 hits now. But I haven't change anything since one month. So why did my sites hits has increased?

I wanna know which factors is responsible for increasing hits and how do I know the number of visitors on this blog?

May be ur site rank is increased in Search Engines, May be you are attending to discussion in forums with signature that points to your site blah blah blah...

You can use google analytics or piwik.org/ (recommended) for analyzing daily and monthly visitors, bounce rate etc.

you must install google analytics to know the reason of traffic, from GA you can check from where you are getting traffic.

and visit refer to when a new visitor comes on your site stay on your site.

When someone's visitting your website, he is just watching it...

When he clicks in an ads in your website he's making a hit.

The more visits you have, more ratted will be your site.
The more hits you get, more money you will get from what he's hitting (in case of ads)
