i know alot of people use the Market samuria to look at the competition, but I want to learn how to do it without this tool. The reason being, I don't have the option to upload market samuria to the gov. computer that I use.

SO are their any online tools that I can use.

And also what do you look for when trying to evaluate the competition.

Hi there, whenever I have my final list of keywords, I can then easily see who are the big gorillas out there Im competing with by simply typing my keywords on Google.

Then I used backlinkwatch tool which is available online and check their backlinks. In that way I can see which portals, communities they are in.

This is not the best way but it works for me, so far

    • Define what metrics are important. Focus on your competitor's backlinks, keywords, and traffic. Check their monthly and annual growth, as well as their Alexa rank. Try to find out what is their domain age and how many backlinks they have.

Determine the number of pages being indexed by Google and Yahoo. You can find out this information with a simple Google search. Check their page rank and their last cache data. Use an Excel file to list these details and compare your top competitors.

its really all about the top 10. use the seoquake plugin for FireFox to help evaluate the first page.. and check how well the top 10 sites are optimized (whether they are specifically targeting your keyword).

I don't use any paid tools to check competition and my sites still rank pretty well.

Get the firefox plugin SEO quake. This will tell you the pr for each url and backlinks.

Then you can type each url in the top 10 into backlinkwatch.com

This will give you the number of backlinks as well as the anchor text they are using.

Then You can serpIQ to look up the Keyword you are using to analyze the top 10.
