Hi warriors... I'd like to ask how subdirectories can affect seo in terms of page rank and so on, esp if the subdirectories are of different topics. Can a subdirectory rank on its own?? Another question that comes to mind is my hosting provider - hostgator. I got the baby package for a start because it says it can have multiple domains. Ok...so i thought i can have multiple sites with multiple domains. Then when i added a 2nd domain...this is what i discovered. For example my 1st domain is called 1stdomain-dot-com. Then my 2nd domain is 2nddomain-dot-com. The first domain files are placed in the root folder and cpanel is accessed thru the 1stdomain. Then when the 2nd domain is added, it adds a directory in the root folder of 1stdomain. So effectively, the 2nd domain can be accessed thru 1stdomain-dot-com/wwwdot2nddomaindotcom while the site can still be displayed when wwwdot2nddomaindotcom. is typed in. So i just want to understand better... is this some kind of url redirect?? Will my 2nd domain suffer in any way in terms of page rank/seo? Will google robots see my 2nd domain as a subdirectory? Anybody with hostgator experience the same issue? What about their reseller hosting plan...does this happen also, or does each individual domain has its own ip address?? Pls advice. thanks |

I would also like to know the answer to this. I recently posted this on same here but have had no replies whatsoever. What I can tell you (If by this time you have not already found out) is that I am hosted by Powweb and they recently did the same thing when I added my other domains through cPanel. What I did to not get confused about this was to create a root folder inside htdocs called www and in that folder I placed all folders for each site individually. But I would still like to know if I place yet another website inside one of my domains as a subdirectory, would that affect SEO. In other words, pretty much what your first question.
