Yep, top advice! I would just say though in my opinion that a link from an unrelated site won't get punished by google but is certainly worth less than a link from a topically related site. It is also worth mentioning that an "in context" link is worth a lot more as well. In other words if an article on another site includes a link through to your site as a good resource then that is like gold dust to you.
