I have been trying to rank my website for more than 4 months, after the penguin update I gained some rankings but I stayed at page 2 for the main page and my inner pages didn't rank that well, 2 or 3 only ranked at page 1 and the rest were 40+ so I decided to work on my site and try a new method.

I went to https://developers.google.com/pagespeed/ and tried to see my site speed, I got around 27 points out of a 100, I went to my webmaster tools and looked at my site and Google was showing that my site was faster than 85% of the sites on the web so that kept me wondering! how come my site is faster on the WB tool but on their tool its so low, I decided to fix the issues they reported and I went up to 64 ( I still have to fix more but I don't know how to do it since my HTML/CSS/Javascript) knowledge is 0.

After 3 days my homepage went to page 1 in the top 5! I thought it was a fluke, I checked my stats and I started seeing traffic coming from long tail keywords and it comes to the inner pages, all my inner pages are on page 1 or page 2 max!

I didn't do alot of backlinking, I do like one or two links a week using comments..try it and see if that helps, it worked for me so it might work for you

I just ran the test and got overall PageSpeed Score of 89 (out of 100). Maybe it's one of the factors that play a role but it obviously didn't help in my case.

Try to fix the errors u get and it might help, I think they notice that u r trying to make the site faster which will make the user experience better so they give you points

I ran the test on the site that is ranking no 1 for the keyword and they got an overall PageSpeed Score of 62 (out of 100).

I already have a score of 89. Like i said yes it might play a role but there are tons of other factors at play here.

There are tons of other factors rather than just page speed. What's your link building method? How about the competition?

The page Internet Marketing Leaks got an overall PageSpeed Score of 81 (out of 100).
does it really affect on serps? i think link building does more affect rather than this.

I am not saying linking wont have an impact, but this also might be a factor so it helps.. linking is the main factor but they have more than 200 factors..

The competition is medium, I outranked sites that has been there for more than a year as I wanted to do this niche long time ago, ofcourse there are more factors but this might be one of them, I usually did backlinks to the main page but not alot, my links re coming from comments and I would say 90% of them are coming from comments.. but alot of the pages that are ranking do not have a single backlink

While it is good to improve your page speed, it's still a very small piece of the ranking factor compared to backlinks.
