Hey everyone, Alright, clearly my research skills suck horribly. I got the basic idea of SEO down but anything more than that Im really struggling with. I wanted to try and rank for the keyword "land auction", when I google it the first thing I see is 244,000,000 results. So of course I shaked my head and wanted to cry haha. I then started to check the first 2 pages of google and noticed that a lot of the top ranking sites have a couple of thousand back links (1k-3k) backlinks to be exact, and the keywords for some of them arent "land auction" but clearly its in the right category. Everything that was on the 2nd page had a couple of hundred backlinks, I know backlinks arent everything but if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great. |

You're really gunna have to jump in and learn how to do keyword research at some point. If you don't have the research skill to find even that basic knowledge, your ventures as an entrepreneur will be very depressing and uneventful.

Download the free version of seo spyglass start mimicking as much of their links strategy as possible create good relevant content. get some social media rep going Also try to get a domain name (aged if possible) with the keyword in it. P.s. I just ran the second result on google for "land auction" (the first one was blank) through seo SG and it has 5,974 backlinks. Needless to say you'll be busy. |

Thanks for that info, I will start working on a link strategy and relevant content. I will also look into social media, and yeah 5k backlinks sounds like a lot of work haha. Is there a maximum on how many backlinks I should be doing a day that wont get me penalized by google? 5? 15?

Try to obtained a long tail keyword like for example Land Auction in New York etc it will be much easy to rank and more likely a buyer keyword. Also make some videos for this keyword and put on Youtube to get maximum results. Hope it will help. Cheers! Jawad |

First thing, the statistics you get from Google keyword research tool is precisely for adword bidding... You get just an estimate for organic SEO. And backlinks aren’t everything. You have content, social media reputation etc. which gets considered while getting ranked. |

However, I checked out "land auction" and it's definitely a keyword I'd stay well clear of as it would be very tough to rank for and it only gets 1300 exact Global Monthly Searches (GMS).

You are looking at broad match numbers. You need to change your search to exact match in the left hand sidebar.

| Better to realize it now than after spending months working on a site Find a good guide on keyword research and target something with even lighter competition than they tell you to target. Go after something super easy first and figure out what you're doing, then move up in difficulty. The AdSense Flippers have a free guide that covers one approach. They target very low competition: Building A Niche Site Empire Guide | AdSense Flippers Pat Flynn has a nice video on keyword research you can check out here: Keyword Research and SEO Webinar Replay (6/23/10) |

I would recommend you to look for long phrase keyword first... Coz this will not only get ranking easily but will also help you to get some rank for the short tailed keywords. You can go to google keyword selection tools for further reference. I think everybody have given a fair suggestion |

Check the real search of your keyword to know the exact competition. You can get a rough idea through Google adword tool about competition in the global and local searches.
