Really quick SEO question about .info domain names.

I know most people don't like them, including me, but my question is a 2 part Q.

1.) Why do .info's rank worse in the SERPs?

2.) Do .info's have less chance of getting PR or is that something different all together.

If you are not sure then do not comment a spam reply please.

Because Google does not recognize .info as a authority compared to sites with .com a clear specifications of why this is has not been declared by Google

Through our experiences it has been three times harder to increase PR for .info then .com

Lol, are you kidding me? PR is a metric, when I fill a jerry can with 1 liter or I fill a bottle with 1 liter. It's still one liter.

I've had .info's rank just fine. So I don't totally buy into the "Google hates .info" hype.

But, then again, I tend to go after low competition keywords. I've never tried to rank a tough keyword with a .info. (Or .com, .net, etc.)

.info has become very popular domain choice and if you use it for information site then people really like it and it can get you good CTR in the search results.

Obviously Google does not care what domain excretion you are using so you do not have to worry about that. If people say they do not rank well, then my question is why it ranks well for me and lot of other people and not for some. Has Google singled out some people and not others, well it can not be the domain extension then.

I would say if you can still find some nice .info domain that goes well with the extension and is suitable to your website then you can do very well.

Yes, I agree, it is like Ferrari, if you do not know how to handle it properly it can be dangerous, then it is best to stick to something more common like Ford or something.

Yes I know, you can not really compare domain names with cars but I think that what MR Lim meant by being dangerous. Yes, maybe not Ferrari, more like Lotus Elise, that would be better analogy.

Better compare the .com to a ferrari and the .info to a lada.

Is Lada one of the fastest growing car brands in the world right at the top in there with the others?

I see what you're saying, but you can't compare a .info to the top imo.

There is a lot of bad hype over .info domains simple because spammers used to use .info for all of their websites.

Really though, there's nothing true about this hype. It's just as easy to rank a .info as it is to rank a .com

It's amazing people still debate If .info is better than any other TLD.

You either know how to rank a page or you don't, Google doesn't care about the TLD.

I have 10 recipe sites, 8 are .com and 2 are .info. I have found that the .info sites rank as well as the .com sites. As someone here said I believe it is highly dependent on site content. The site should be what be considered "info". My recipes sites would apparently be considered info while something like a "game" site probably would not.

Get out of such thoughts. Google does not really care about domain extensions. dot com, dot net dot info, all the same to google. It just rank the websites based on their merit and content.

With regards to SEO, .info does seem to have much of an effect with getting rank provided you do best practices like good content with good onsite/offsite optimization like the competition you're up against. Many people don't like the .info because of the offsite marketing issues that it "could" cause. People with catchy domain names could lose visitors if they verbally share their website name because a potential visitor may not remember its a .info extension. Most people will unconsciously use the .com first, then the .net next or .org.

Big G doesnt love infos as much as other domains, it takes extra effort to rank your info sites...

Always go for .coms, .net and .org domains

Rather than try to convince you guys that .info are fine like I have in all the other threads asking the same question I am thinking more exact match for me if this myth sticks around...

The only thing you have to watch with .info is thy tend to be cheap to buy initially but not so cheap to renew.

One of my best-performing review sites is a .info.
