This is a very good point. OK theres 2 different ways to look at this. what your talking about here is

1. viral traffic (word of mouth)
2. Search engine traffic.

Now depending on the market your in one can work better than the other, ie
its very to get enough buzz around (viral traffic)if you are just opening up another ecommerce store that sells gifts, so for this sort of site you may just focus on backlink but still provide a worthy site to link to.

If you are in another market that has constant followers, ie affiliate marketing well then you could focus all your attention on building a quality site, lets say for instance what most marketers charge for you give away for free well then this can cause a buzz and bingo, you have viral marketing as eveyone will be telling how great your site is because you are providing so and so.

Im currently putting together a little wordpress site where i am revealing absolutely everything i know on making money online.

This wont be your average blog as each post will be more of a blueprint rather than an article. Step by step instructions so people can put in use.

The only problem im having is getting time to get the blueprints written up and the site as its just a project on the side.

Good information although too general. Seo is time consuming therefore it would help if you at least mention how many times you do each of the things you mentioned. Don't get me wrong its a good informative post.
I would also add getting EDU & GOV links, they are highly regarded by google. You can either buy them or you can seach for Do Follow University (EDU) forums

Ok i have a lot of success posting articles on web 2.0 sites eg content sharing sites

1. Gather
2. flixya
3. cafepress
4. freewebs
5. wetpaint
6. Hupages
7. Squidoo

Now heres the trick, all the above sites, google loves but what we wont to do is find new content sharing sites that google loves. What we do is
go to alexa,
go to the movers and shackers section.
look a sites you dont know of that are climbing the search engines(these are usually the sites that are the next big thing, eg squidoo hubpages)
Because there climbing so quickly, google loves them because they are providing something with quality that people love.
So we go to these sites and basically insert, ,articles videos, comments all with our links.
We basically get to put our links on the best sites on the internet at any time, getting really good traffic and PR juice.

I found hubpages before anyone was using it to make money and get traffic and made a small fortune through it.

This is good advice and I dont think everyone knows about. Thanks for sharing

personaly i think you should pick 5 methods and stick with them for a while, test the results your getting and maybe if there not good pick another 5, if you try all methods at once you will never really get good at any.

Yeah, this is a good post. Guest blogging and content distribution is really powerful, especially because of the relationships you develop.

I"m still wrapping my head around Twitter, but creating a really cool widget and reaching out to bloggers in your niche is pretty good too.

(When you contact the site owners, do not ask them, hey do you want an article for your site but ive my link in it, he will just say no. say it like "hey, i have some really good articles that might interest you and your readers, ive also included my url but feel free to remove it if you dont like the article" 90% of time the link is left in the article if its good.

Contact site owners for link exchange (Think outside the box here)e.g type in your main keyword in google, go to the 3-4th page, these sites usualy have a good PR and are willing to exchange links than page 1 results. check the link page is recently cached and has less than 50 links, check for nofollow.
4. Contact site owners and ask them would they be willing to conver a keyword on their existing article to point back to your site in exchange for articles (articles with your links)
5. copy all of your competitors backlinks (use seo elite for this, get lots of different IP addresses
6. Use Isnare article distribution. (be carefully using this, make sure you have quality backlinks first and only use once a week, twice at the most)
7. Back link solutions
8. article underground
9. paid per post reviews
10. Directory submissions (especialy paid ones, but only who pass PR juice)
11. Social bookmarking (from different IPs)
12. PR Pumpers site creation on different IP addresses. (build 20 mini niche sites, each site should focus on 1 or2 keywords of your money site, build links to these sites and PR, pass the PR to your money site, link out to your competitors once or twice so it looks natural)
13. Post internal URLs to deep linking directories
14. All the top article directories
15. Link baiting (quizes, Buzz, lists, Humor etc)
16. Write something very con traversal and post on your site (this 1 method made me about €11,000 in 1 month for 1 article!)
17. sponsoring sites
18. Press releases, (The right way )
19. Yahoo answers/questions
20. google groups, ask questions leave answers, iie links
21. Video Creation
22. Twitter ( I LOVE IT, A DREAM COME THROUGH IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE)

Unless I missed it, you left out one of the most important type of backlinks out there - high-PR forum profile links. I only do that and article marketing for all my sites and I achieve page 1 rankings easily and quickly. Honestly you don't need all the other stuff like directory submission and rss submission and social bookmarking and whatnot...
