Default Multi Site Linking Strategy

Hi All,

I'm puzzling over a linking strategy for some sites and I'd be most grateful for any input.

I have 7 sites, each with 6+ re-written PLR articles. They are all part of a larger niche (as an example, say the larger niche was dogs, the sites would be about specific breeds of dog), There's also a central hub site. Using the dog example, it would contain general dog articles and tips.

Now, originally, the intention was to optimise for AdSense and promote via articles but this project began over two years ago!

My original idea was to link the hub site to each of the satllite sites and interlink between the satellites, too, where appropriate. Also link from the satellites to specific pages in the hub site.

I currently have all the satellites on one server and the hub on a different server.

Is this a reasonable strategy or is there a better way to do it?

Many thanks.

I've had a trawl but can't find a discussion on this subject. Can someone point me in the right direction, please?

Go ahead and link to your other pages, with the keyword being "where appropriate".

It won't have a big effect on the SEs, either good or bad (don't over-do it), but once you start getting traffic, you can be your own top "referer".

The basic gist of the Q, which probably wasn't well explained, was whether it is 'ok' to link the hub to the outlying sites or whether it is better to link the outlying sites to the hub.

Both. You want links going to and from your site. Put links with authority and that are very nice in your niche (in other words, not some spammy other adsense site). And then place links coming to your site from the web 2.0 sites, directories, blog commenting, and link exchanges.

I'd only link from the satellites in to the hub. If you have reciprocal links (from and to the same pair of sites) Google can see them and ignore them, so they will be of less benefit to you. Decide which site is your big money-earner and make it the apex of your linking campaigns.

I agree with Kevin. Link from your satellite sites to the mother site. There is a lot of discussion concerning this with IPK (InfoProductKiller) as linking strategy is an important element of that model.

Have a look at some of the comments on this thread:

Info product killer results?

There is also a lot of discussion about the linking strategy on the forum they have set up. This can be accessed from that thread.

I would have 2 links coming off of each one of the hub sites.

1 link to the "mother site"
1 link to the next hub site in line

However, you will want to stop linking to the next hub site at some point as you don't want it to be a complete circle...

Not sure if that made sense in words or not lol

There are some good linking tips above, I would like to highlight something that you said, namely "6+ articles".

I would strongly advise you to get lots more content (articles) onto your sites. This will always help your ranking efforts.

change your registration to private for all your domain names. also, register some more domains as DNS servers and put every domain on its own separate DNS server with a unique ip address. make sure you're not two-way linking and you should have yourself a really good linking network.

Thanks everyone. But there is still much difference of opinion so you can see my quandry

I've waded through most of the IPK site but couldn't find anything definitive. Guess no one really knows, eh?

Having taken so long to get the sites together, I'd rather do with them what I can rather than buying more web space. And, having taken so long, I'd like to move on to other things.

I understand that buying web space from different companies, for example, will give you different IP addresses but what does "register domains as DNS servers" mean and how do you do it? Is that different to putting each domain on a different server?

I have more articles but seem to recall the advice that it's better to add conntent slowly over time.

These are mainly PLR articles - pretty poor stuff, truth be told, and from a variety of sources - and take much rewriting.

Just be careful, one step wrong and all your site might get banned...

1. All sites should be on different C Class IPs.
2. All site should avoid reciprocal link.
3. All site should have certain age, 4 ~ 6 months before interlinking... (anyone please confirm this tip)

When building new sites, I will :

1. Use web 2.0 property and High PR links to all your satellite sites, let them age for 6 months before you start linking here and there.

2. Continue to build links to all your sites, target for all kinds of keywords.

3. Build good content on your site, optimize the bounce rate to below 50%, anywhere between 40% ~ 60% is good.

4. Post only 3 ~ 7 post per week, do it for 1 month, and you may increase to 8 ~ 14 post per week.

5. Build back links to all post, do it slowly for the first 2 weeks, unless all links from High PR sites, I think more links in is OK.

Unless your site has good natural link attraction, building links too fast might not be a good idea, your trust rank might drop and all effort goes to drain...

Yes, it's different.

For my Super High Value websites, I put all those on their own DNS server. If you're just using your host's DNS, then you're probably one of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or maybe MILLIONS of domains on that DNS server.

There's debate over this topic, but I've proven to myself that domains that are on a dedicated IP address, and a DNS server with few other domains, these steps help boost my ranking potential just that little bit more. My domains are as optimized as it gets, and I point high-quality links to them... so for many of my sites, I'm squeaking out those "last mile" efforts to help my rankings as much as possible. Putting a domain on it's own DNS server is one of those "last mile" efforts that separates me from my competition.

Ah... Impressive. However, I'm just trying to get the best from what I've got. Maybe fine tune it alter but not at the moment.

Well multi-linking your sites between them may seem a short term good idea. But make sure google doesn't see this as black hat SEO. The last thing you want to do is get banned by google.

How do I do that?

Or basically, is interlinking, even carefully as some early posts suggested, a No-No?
