Default Landing Pages - Horrible for SEO?

IS a landing page terrible for seo?

I think I know the answer -- YES. They are.

Its best that we set up content-rich informative pages that all end with a little ad the links people to our true money page.

Correct?

I can't seem to get my landing pages to rank well these-a-days

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I generally don't want my landing pages ranked. I consider "landing pages" to mean PPC landing pages. These are targeted for your PPC ads, not general search. You generally wouldn't want these getting indexed... and I'd go so far as to noindex them. Maybe I'm wrong?!?

Landing pages are great if you use them correctly. Make sure there are links to all of your pages or perhaps your site map on the landing page, as well as some content related to the topic/category of your site.

As far as your landing pages not getting a great rank, do you have any good sites linking to your landing page? Do you constantly update and add new/fresh content to your landing page on a regular basis?

These are some things to consider.

Hope this helps

To answer you question, yes, stand-alone landing pages are NOT good for SEO. You want to show the search engines that your landing page is linked to other internal pages.
Having multiple pages linked together will give you a higher quality score compared to a stand-alone landing page.

Hi Oilman,

The term "Landing Page" can be applied to any page that you land on when clicking a link. So, any page that is indexed in the search engines is technically a landing page.

I realize that what you really mean when you say "landing page" is actually your "offer page" or perhaps a "squeeze page".

I have to disagree with your assessment that these cannot both be good for SEO and conversions. If you can figure out the common factors that work well for both concepts then you are on the path toward optimization.
