Default Will doing a redirect effect SEO ?

Hi

I am just wondering this

I have a website, we will use the example below

Lets say its

((thisdomain.com))

and it ranks high for the keywords i am targetting

The sites main script is hosted on another url

Lets say

((thisdomain.com/redirecttothisurl))

So if i done a redirect to the second url, would this effect the seo?

Thanks in advance

If the second page had the same content as was originally on the first page it will only have a small negative effect on the link juice being passed between the pages, due to the fact that a tiny fraction of the PageRank passed through 301 redirects is lost.

If the content was substantially different I suspect Google may have a slightly different view, as the original page may have been ranked not only for its PageRank but also for its quality content, title, etc.

Oasisdating,

Redirecting (if done correctly) will not have a negative impact on SEO. The main reason redirects are used as it relates to SEO is to preserve page rank and maintain a consistent user experience when moving a website to a new domain. As long as you do your homework and move things in stages, you should be fine.

Google gives some advice about redirects here,

Hope that helps,

I agree with TheContentAuthority. there is no negative effects on SEO when you done it right.if you dont know how to do a 301 redirect ask for your web developer to do that for you. so that you wont change anything you dont know in the htaccess

I believed you already got an answer from your question. But before doing the 301 redirection make sure that the destination url is quality if it's not the same with the old one.
