I personally opted out of using Adsense on my site because it ruined the "look" and professionalism off. The question is, is it working putting it on? Will I earn anything off it? Is it worth ruining the quality of my website?

It depends on the focus of your website..

I have some sites that I put content on purely for adsense profits, and other times I use it for testing a niche..

It is worth it, but only when the situation dictates... wouldn't want it on a sales page now, would you?...

    Peace

The quality of a website is subjective - some people will think it looks professional, others won't. Tastes and preferences vary from person to person.

I wouldn't worry about how professional a site looks, I'd rather concentrate on the quality of service it provides.

Another thing, I learned the hard way not to put pride or ego in the way of making money - Adsense (like any advertising) is one of those things you have to test for yourself. If it makes money and traffic remains stable or increases then there's no problem (just a dented ego)...

    I double Colin's suggestion.

What is your site made for, what is its purpose - looking good or...?

Second - unless you test (and I mean, TEST, in-depth, not just put it for a few days and remove it) adsense there is absolutely no way you can find out whether it works for your particular case or not.

Then again - in order to decide if it works or not you must have a point of reference to something else you've tested for a long enough period of time to come up with stable results.

As you can see it's all very subjective.

Adsense will never make as much money as affiliate sites. I do both and while Adsense puts in my pocket $100-$150 each day on autopilot .. it would have been a lot more easier to do it with affiliate based websites ..

Adsense is particularely good for informational sites. If you are selling your own products you might not want to distract people away from making a sale.

Adsense shouldn't really ruin the look of your site. You can choose the format and also style them using your sites colours etc to get them inline with the look and feel of yoursite.

Some people can earn a fortune with Adsense whilst others make pennys. It all boils down to traffic and what niche you are in.

Right you are. I rarely see heavy traffic in my site. So I guess I will wait till it gets popular.

I don't care if it ruins the look of my sites. The more beautiful I make my sites the less money they make. And I do this for money, so I arrange the ads in the way that makes the most money.

But if I am selling something on the same page, I will try to keep the Adsense from distracting the viewers eyes away from the affiliate link, so in that case I might put the Adsense lower down on the page or whatever. So it depends.

But yeah, almost all my sites have at least some Adsense.

i think that AdSense is a good tool ... but to start making real money, you must found a way to drive trafic to your site ...

using ptc, or youtube, etc ..

or just creating alot of sites ...

    there are many ways ...

I definitely think it is worth it. It gives a newbie some confidence when a small amount of traffic can still generate Adsense Clicks.

Also, it gives the serious , experienced Marketers the Option to really build a HUGE Adsense Empire with many, many sites. And earn a very substantial income.

So it a very flexible and powerful weapon . IMHO !!

(WARNING: But you need to still have a Contigency Plan or Exit Strategy because Google Adsense Team can do some crazy things like closing your Adsense Acount down for good with no apparent reason. So its always good to have Affiliate Products in place and ready to go to replace Adsense in these Niche Sites if Account is banned ! )

I think it is worth it cause even the biggest sites put them on their sites. You can always choose the spot where to your adsense ads anyways.

I think it's worth it. The ads don't have to be super gaudy. The fit especially well in a forum. It's just SO easy, I can't pass it up.

I don't worry about my account being banned. Most people who've been banned were trying to beat the system somehow, whether they admit it or not. What I do worry about is clicks becoming less valuable, because they're based on a lot of factors outside of your control (advertiser bidding, which may be affected by the recession, etc.). So I do affiliate sales and other things as well.

It's impossible to know what any one income stream will look like 5 years from now. Maybe Adsense won't even exist, who knows. So it's important to diversify into several areas. But Adsense is one good area to be in.
