Default Information please on a title to Website page for SEO

Hi all Warriors:

Hope the week has been great thus far.

Could somebody be kind enough to give me examples and information in non technical terms if you had a website and were going to name the sales page for the Search engines (I'm making up topics below) what would you call the page if it were to sell:
Rock And Roll Music CD's
Books from the 1960's
Clothing for Dogs

These are obviously not my products. I am not looking for a plug, but a how to as what is the mind-set. Do you try to get the words of the product in the title to the page as long as these are actual keywords that are part of what you sell?

Any examples and information is appreciated.

Thanks as always!

Hi Graig,

Optimizing sales copy for SEO is not the easiest of tasks. It really depends on what your selling and on your sales approach.

"Do you try to get the words of the product in the title to the page as long as these are actual keywords that are part of what you sell?"

Short answer, yes. You can still follow basic SEO rules BUT ...
All-too-often you can ruin good sales copy by trying to optimize it for SERPS.

Are you using a hard-sell approach (e.g One page site or squeeze page) or are you using more of a soft sell tactic (e.g reviews)?

Reviews are much easier to optimize. Try and get your main keyword(s) in the title, header, first and last paragraph of your content and sprinkled (sparingly) throughout the rest of the page (as long as it's natural). Also use variations of that keyword. Same basic SEO rules as for any other content site.

I'm not saying you should always use a soft sell, it really depends on the product and your market, but sometimes you may be better off seeking traffic in other ways.

For niche marketing like "clothing for dogs" or "books from the 1960s" I would research keywords in that niche and try to find a group of 5-15 less competetive long-tail phrases. I would them create a page on my site for each of those keywords.
I would keep the index page general and drill down to focus on specifics with the other pages as above.

I know this answer is a little vague but there are so many variables depending on your market, your product, and your sales approach. Also - whether you are targeting one specific product on your page or just a general niche.

Cheers,
John.
