Effect of using Social Bookmarks?

Will creating different social book mark accounts and bookmarking my website everyday have a positive SEO effect or will the powers that be decide that it is spam? sorry for the stupid questions, but I imagine it will be positive because popular sites should be bookmarked by different usernames right?

Yes, this technique does help the SEO of your site. One of the main reasons is because of the high page rank backlinks. Not, only are you exposing your link to the people visiting the bookmarking sites, but you're driving up your quality score because of the multiple high page rank backlinks.

So, I say go crazy! Bookmark the hell out of all of your pages! Also, go ahead and create profiles at all of the social networking sites... Use the same username..doesn't matter > make sure your link is also in the profile somewhere > put your social networking profile links on your site > you can even link all of your bookmarking, and social networking links together if you want...

But, don't worry....you have a looong way before Google is going to hammer you on "spamming" or quality score for doing this.. if you start to notice something like this, then maybe back off...

...until then, again...I say go crazy!

At the moment I'm just about to set up a account with all the social bookmarking sites - it's going to take ages!

Yes, it is help from SEO point of view but it is a tedious task. Although there are few softwares available to make this thing a bit easier and one of such software is bookmarking daemon.

In my opinion the social bookmarking backlinks don't help as much as they use to. But they do still help, and everytime I add new blog content or a website article I bookmark it to 10 or 12 sites.

If my site is really well established and has been secure in its Google search positions for a long time then I just bookmark to 2 or 3 big sites to get spidered quickly, but the backlinks aren't as necessary (because I probably already have a lot of relevant backlinks that are more important than social bookmarking backlinks).
