Every one gets tired of building backlinks from time to time. And sometimes we get so tired we just quit. But many people forget, the most important sphere of ranking is on-site optimization. If you have built a site, and believe you have done so to SEO standards, you should rank in the top 50 pages of Google without one single backlink. After you have accomplished that section. The next is to move into your social media with google +, facebook, twitter and so forth. Dont forget to include these on your site and also to ping them every time you make a post. And get followers. After you have completed this stage, don't buy backlinks, do them yourself, and find good quality sites and discussion forums to talk about your market. YES, it is WORK, but just one quality backlink per day for each of your top keywords. This method will always work, you will never get penalized. But remember when you build links. DOfollow - 70% Nofollow - 30% anchor links - 17% brand links - 30% site url links - 18 % The few above are just an idea amount of percentage needed. The above is only for SEO. SEO alone will not bring you in traffic. After you see yourself start to rank, move into social marketing. This will be the kicker that gets you to the top. |

Interesting ratios, thanks for sharing. Are they based on your own experience or pulled from another source?

| The stats above are in the ball park. It is based on my experience through trial and error and analyzing my backlinks for keywords that rank well in very competitive markets. I though got my knowledge form this from watching a lot of Matt Cutts videos on YouTube and google support forums. I tend to do research online on the latest trends, but when I hear about people getting hit by panda and/or penguin, I stay away, because they never bothered to learn the correct ways by listening to what Google has to say. Follow the book and you will have success. You need to do a little of each and naturally.

Not to shoot you down but I don't think it matters. Focusing on nofollow/dofollow is just pointless. I don't see any evidence that it matters. With regards to anchor text, variety is important (otherwise you're just spamming the keyword) but I don't think the ratios are set in stone. Common sense is key here. |

i wouldn't ever focus on dofollow/nofollow just get a link, it adds to the profile, i view no follow links as charity, you don't want to do it, but you do it anyway so you don't get slammed with taxes. same with link building, if you focus only on dofollow, you're gonna get slammed.

As far as the original post, I'm not sure if I would worry about getting THAT specific. Plus, I think I'd drive myself nuts. I just vary things up and that's it.

With ref possible ranking without any offpage SEO, just depends on how competitive the terms are, I've seen some sites rank page one even no1 just from onpage seo - and I've also seen websites appearing way way beyond the first 5 pages for competitive search terms regardless of how good the on page is. I'm not sure where these figures above have come from, but in my own experience what matters most is where the backlink is coming from and in what context the link appears, after this then of course anchor text is important, and a mix of anchor text - but I've never seen any evidence to suggest that there's a specific percentage required of dofollow, nofollow & so on, and this wouldn't make sense to me. Everything Google do is to allow them to better identify the quality sites and distinguish them from the lesser value poorer quality sites - and I'm not sure how a specific percentage mix of different kind of links, would help them to achieve this. "backlinking" is a redundant terminology anyway imho. You can spend a LOT of time "backlinking" and get absolutely no value from it whatsoever, regardless of any special mix of percentages of backlink types. And your quote about SEO alone not bringing traffic & you need to work on SM - I'm not sure what you mean. SEO alone WILL bring traffic, if it is actual SEO and not spam SEO.

If you are going to bother focusing on building links (I don't) then trying to get ratios is just not worth it. Just build the strongest ones you can, regardless of arbitary rules and ratios spouted on forums by people who really have no idea more than you do.
