Default Copied post outrank my original post??

hello all,

I have an article on my blog, that I published in February starting and someone copied it and posted on his blog(without mentioning the reference URL). Now what I see, his copied post is ranked on top outranking my original post.

What do you think, is it possible if one copied post could outrank the original post in Google search engine. I really don't know if in my case it has been visible on top by some serious error in Google algo. Because, if it is not due to error, then everybody will start coping content from other sources and would be visible on top.

Hi,

First of all - yes it is quite possible that your original posts is outranked by another site.

Google doesn't rank by the origin of content. It ranks by the authority of the site. If the site with the copied content is seen by Google as more relevant (or a higher authority) than yours, or if the page is simply optimized better than yours then you will be outranked.

Example - If you submit an article to ezinearticles.com after placing the same article on your own new site, the chances are that ezinearticles.com would outrank you.

Secondly, unfortunately content gets ripped-off all the time. Email the website owner and insist that he either take the content down or place a link to your site within it. They may do as you ask or they may ignore you. Unless you want to take matters further then there's little else you can do.

Other than that the best thing you can do is make sure your page is well optimized and get some backlinks to it using your target keyword(s) and variations of those keywords as anchor text.

This will help to put you back on top.

Cheers,
John.

Thanks for your reply John. However his blog is very new and not authorized like Ezine. So I think this is the fault of Google algorithm. I've filed the report in Google DMCA and waiting for their response.

I personally would prefer to get the blogger to credit me properly and add my url than to get Google involved. Google doesn't really care. But if that site's going to outrank mine in the future then I want to get some of his traffic plus backlink juice.

you are right ! But how can I insist him for back link. I think, It totally depends on his own will. He may or may not give me a link.

If you want to catch these people stealing your articles, place a 1x1 transparent image to your post with the alt text as "this article was made by domain.com on 18/04/09 and must not be copied".

Then track the pixel image. then you have proof it was yours.

You see, when ppl copy the article off a web page, it also copies any images and other html, so when pasted, it's in the same format from where it was copied from, this goes for blogs, word docs, etc.

What most ppl don't do is copy the text, paste it to a note pad (this strips out any html formatting), then copy it over to your blog - which then becomes almost untraceable, but more importantly, harder to prove it was your article.

Nice advice Loz, but content thieves also know these tricks therfore I don't think they copy my content directly. I would say Google have to be srtict in this matter and they must have take some action against these people rather than rewarding them by giving high ranking.

Nah, most of them are stupid, they just copy content to get traffic and do a quick copy and paste. I've found 100's copying my content and got over 80% of these to have them remove the content, or had their hosting account revoked.
