Hi, There's an interesting article today on the BBC website: BBC NEWS | Technology | Google rolls out search changes It talks about some of the changes Google is going to be making to it's search results. Perhaps this isn't news to most of us, but they have now gone mainstream with the forthcoming changes. I think it means we have to develop more multi-media content for our websites to ensure we remain appealing to our visitors and to google. Any comments about the various opportunities this may bring for all of us? Sam |

Long gone are the days when the search results just consisted of plain old static html pages. In some ways I am a bit pissed about that because one of my specialities is writing very tight html code and benefiting in the rankings because of it. I'm sure there is still a place for plain old well written sites, but I think we are going to have to finally start jazzing them up with more audio and video and other multi-media content. If google thinks that is the way forward, then you have to take it into account for sure. |

Google can do what they want to do. I don't rely on search results for my traffic, so I don't care. I have found that it is better to get the majority of your traffic from other sources that aren't going to change on a whim.

They are always trying to make things easier and more effective. The fact that so many search results are now user based makes google a money generating machine for a lot of people.

Sure, I would be happy to help. First, what I do is work to get RSS subscribers. I have a few powerhouse sites, so whenever I launch a new one, I announce it's creation on my large sites. Some of those visitors will then check out the new site and become subscribers. Once I have a fair amount of subscribers, things just kind of snowball because they start to spread news of my site via word of mouth. I used to rely solely on ShareThis to accomplish this, but I have become less and less impressed with their service recently, so I have really moved away form using them. | |

I doubt the news will have that big an impact on the changes that Google is already constantly implementing. Organic and evolving content is definitely becoming much more important in the eyes of the search engines.
