Craigslist for backlinks

Does posting to craigslist with a link to your website in order to gain a backlink work?

I am not talking about posting to multiple cities but just to your own area and posting maybe once every 2 weeks or so?

CL backlinks are nofollow now, if that matters to you.

If it is no-follow, why do it other than using it as an 'offline' marketing tactic?

Also what about Kijiji?

You must be wrong.

I just found a Craigslist adv that has four (4) links to the website plus an email link. One of he links is a has a graphic on it as well. There are no 'no-follow' parameters on the tags at all.

CL does insert "No Follow" tags.

If its no follow the only real reason would be for the referrer traffic - Same with wikipedia.

So far it seems like youtube, kijiji and flickr have no-follow tags.

Apparently they aren't doing so now. All of my older posts on CL from earlier this year have the nofollow tags, but my recent ones don't. I didn't even check them until I read Vince's post. This is really huge for me, if it lasts; although I am happy with my CL results even without the backlinks as it brings in quite a bit of traffic to the business sites I market for my family anyway.

I get a ton of backlinks from posting on Backpage.com. I have not seen any of my ads from Craigslist showing up lately, so I believe they inserted "no follow" tags in their website. I used to get a bunch of backlinks from them.

Michael, my understanding of the NOARCHIVE tag is that it's used to discourage or minimize caching by the major SEs. CL has used this quite effectively for years so that expired, deleted or flagged posts are not accessed via SEs.

How does this impact backlinks?

You're comparing apples and oranges! Yes, there is no 'cached' version of the page (since the ad will expire), but there are NO nofollow tags on my links with anchor text!

While I know my backlinks are fine for LOCAL listings (small biz, services), does anyone know if the general listings put NOFOLLOW tags on backlinks?
