So how do you ramp up your sales to get Those "Long" Blue And Grey Bars In your Clickbank Account?

Today I want to leave some info with you to help you get those blue and grey bars in your account also!

"Do Proper Keyword Research"

Once You now know that there is money to be made in your selected market, you need to also know how to get your website in front of your prospects. This means you need to know what terms people with problems, that your product caters, to are searching for.

The good thing about this is that there are numerous tools on the market today that can help you to achieve this. These tools are known as keyword tools and they keep a track of most of the keyword phrases that people uses when they are looking for information on the search engines.

For this we are going to use the free Google Keyword Tool Itself.

Step #1-
The first thing you should do is type in a general term that is related to your market. For example let's use the weight loss market. So you could start with "fat loss"

Look for key phrases with 3 or more words.

Step #2-
Copy all the key phrases with 3 or more words and save the to a notepad file.

Steps #3- Once you have done that paste all the keywords you copied back into the search box. Uncheck the 'use synonyms' box and then click 'get 'keyword ideas'

Step #4- Next you will select 'exact' to get a list of the exact search terms that people are searching for.

You will notice that the search numbers have decreased drastically. The reason for this is because we are getting more and more targeted to our audience and these terms are the exact phrases that potential customers are searching for.

Step #5- In this step we are going to find out what the competitions for each of our keywords are like. So we are going to copy each of the key phrases one by one and search for them in quotation "" in Google. This will give us an idea of all the other websites that have optimized their websites for the selected keywords.

Note the number of websites returned.

Now you are going to create a database of all your keywords and the exact searches and the number of competing websites.

Step #6- Open an excel document. Create 3 columns and label them keywords, exact searches and number of competing websites respectively. Repeat steps 5 and six above and record your results for all your keywords under each column in your excel document. (Note If you Have a keyword tool such as Micro Niche Finder this step will automatically be done for you.)

Step #7- Repeat step #1 to step #5 then record your result in the same excel document as in step #6.

Hint: in step #1 I started with the broad term "fat loss" now I can use "weight loss, lose weight, lose fat etc.".

There are literally hundreds of keywords for every niche you can think of. Using my example of the weight loss niche here is a glimpse of what I came up with:

And this is just from the broad term "fat loss". Just imagine the potential and you thought the weight loss niche was "too saturated"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Step #8-
This is the elimination step. We are going to get super targeted now. So go in your excel document and delete all the keywords that has more than 50,000 competing websites. Now you should have a list of some super targeted keywords that you can rank well in the search engines for. Cool eh J

Step #9
- Select the keyword with the highest amount of searches for your main keyword. The trick will be to get your presell page (discuss later) to rank for your main keywords while getting your articles to rank for the other low competition keywords phrases. So in that way you are getting maximum traffic form all angles to your presell page which leads to your merchant's page. And that should = $$$$$$$$

So what are you waiting for?

Go ahead and do some work- The quicker you get started the quicker you will see those blue and grey bars coming in.

Hope this post could help someone

have a great eve.

Wow thanks for this. My biggest problem is the initial keywords to start running with. Often I think it's good or hard to break into a competitive market. Even by using micro niche finder a few nights ago, it seemed everything was virtually impossible to break in with. Gonna see if your steps help.

      Thanks for the comment.

I know it works because it's what I used to get my articles ranking high even in competitive niches.

      Hope it helps you

I agree with you, that finding keywords can be difficult but with Micro Niche Finder you can brainstorm and find hot trends.

I've recently learned (although I've had it for ages) how to use the OCI properly.

I'd like to say that this has to be one of the most enlightening posts I've ever read on the WF about keyword research.

Thanks a lot. Two thumbs up!

I would like to ask something; are Google Adwords Tool's numbers trustworthy? There is a huge discrepancy between Google's values and Seo Book's values. Which should I trust?

I would say yes Google's keyword tool is very valuable. "Which software would be better to give you the number of searches that the search engine's itself?"

Most of the software also take their values from google. eg Micro-niche finder.

Thank you so much for going to the effort to put together this post! I appreciate that you "drilled down" the steps, like one would for keywords. Too often, people who have the techniques down forget that someone new to it doesn't know a step (or whatever) that is automatic to the experienced. Your post alleviates that.
    The graphics are terrific!
    Thanks, again.

Great post. Just a couple of things to add.

You should not purely base your research on the number of competing sites - you also need to think about the SEO, number of anchor back links, page rank, domain age, keyword in-URLs etc etc of the top ranked pages for your keyword(s). This is why it is so helpful to have good paid keyword research tools like MicroNicheFinder or Market Samurai.

I would agree. I have Jon Leger's webcomp analyst and use it daily. It is a great tool for finding how easy it would be to rank for a given keyword. It works fast too. Information in this post and a good program like that will really help you narrow the keywords you want to try to rank for. Thanks for posting...screen shots too! Nice job.

I think this is only necessary when you go for keywords with higher competition to know how tough it will get. But then you really must dig deeper. For long tail keywords with just a few hundred or thousand competing pages analyzing all this is most likely a waste of time as you will rank easily anyway and the time is better spend creating some backlinks for your own pages than analyzing the backlinks of the others.

I disagree here. You should really analyze every keyword you go for because fact is not all articles will rank in top 10 if you just looked at under eg 50K results. Lets say a keywords has 1000 monthly search but only 3000 competing pages, all were PR of 7 and 20k backlinks. No article however good it is is gonna rank high generally imo.

After you learn how to analyze page results your better off doing that then spending time writing an article for the keyword and having no idea whether its rankable.

I can't believe you shared this information for free. I'm not sure if my fellow warriors realize how valuable this is, but it's what other so called "gurus" charge big bucks for, and has implications beyond just SEO and Clickbank.

This keyword research information can also be used to find some keyword gems, and get costs down on PPC campaigns, while potentially increasing ROI's.

I've been running PPC campaigns to drive traffic to my online store and have been looking at ways to improve my them. Up until now, I've sort of been "winging it." This information you've provided is what I'm going to use from now on, and I'll let you know how it goes.

You would have to analyze all the websites that are already ranking.

Look where they are getting their backlinks from and do the same plus more for your articles.

If you don't know where or how to get backlinks the best thing I could recommend you to is "Angela Edward backlinking servise" It is a WSO that she runs for $5 per month and supply you with 30 high PR websites you can get backlinks from every month.

          hope that helps.

Using Angela's backlinks will definitely get you there, as he said. Also, if you have the option to start a new domain, using the exact words as the keyword in the domain helps tremendously.

So in step 1 why do you only select the keywords with 3 or more words?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[734145].message }}
    • Profile picture of the author yesacpow
The reason is to minimize competition.

Also phrases with less than 3 words are not so targeted. Using the example above:

Someone searching for "how to lose thigh fat" will be more in a buying mood that a person searching for "weight loss".

      Hope that helps.

Thanks yesacpow for such a great post!

There is just one thing in the analysis of competition that I would like to point out. In my opinion, I think that the number of competing sites is not that important as the STRENGTH of competition. I would rather compete on a keyword with 200,000 PR 0 - PR 1 websites than on a keyword with 200 PR 7- PR 9 websites. Warriors, what do you think?

    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[738896].message }}
    • Profile picture of the author yesacpow
Hey thanks for your comment and her is the answer to your question:

When you use [exact] you are getting the number of searches for the phrases as seen in the keyword tool.

On the other hand, when you "phrase" you are getting the number of times someone searh that phrase in the exact order but with aditional words included.

for example let's use the keyword "lose weight"

Broad = how can I lose 10 pounds of weight

Phrase = how can I lose weight

      Exact = lose weight

      hope that answers you question

Neat little trick, and this probably isnt' the thread to start this - however I am finding time and time again that the google keyword tool is the biggest joke when it comes to accurate search volume.

I know there is no perfect tool out there, but if you guys are serious about getting at least "in the ballpark" results, google tool should not be the one to use.

Didn't mean to crap on your thread or anything, just warning everyone about it =)

Thanks for the post and starting this thread.

I am glad someone brought up the fact about buying keywords and your response.

Having all the keyword tools and using them are great. But don't forget common sense and looking at the words you choose. Make sure you ask yourself if were searching using that phrase would you buy the product you are selling

This was a mistake that I made for almost a year. I took the data and the theory and applied the knowledge. I have many high ranking pages with keyword phrases that don't convert visitors into buyers.

However some of those keywords may not attract a product buyer, but they can be great for CPA programs where no credit card is needed.

Thanks again for that step by step with just adwords. I also took it a step further and looked up my list of keywords on word tracker. From that If I get the top spot or close I will be getting mad traffic for all my keywords. I even kept one over your reach of 100000 just to see if it targets that one really well too.

This is a FANTASTIC post and find the keywords to target has been a struggle for me so this has been a great help.

While following your step-by-step tutorial, I came up with a slight addition which may be useful for some.

    1. Add a fourth column to your spread sheet.
    2. Add an equation into the field (copying and pasting it into the 4th colum of each row)
    The equation to add is:-
    (# of sites)x100/(exact search)
    which should look something like
    =B2*100/C2

    3. The resulting number quickly gives a good guide as to which keyword phrases to target (The higher the number, the better)

Ohh God! This is wonderful. thanks so much

What I would do is..... use these keywords for ppc, after I ensure which keywords convert well, I would would write articles based on those keywords.

Send your visitors to product reviews or some presell landing pages, squeeze pages would be good if would like to build a list.

One more thing, you could create related videos, use your keywords as tags then submit them to YouTube.com & some other video sites.

    Hi yesacpow,

I just found this post today. I like the way he outlined the steps for breakdown of keywords. I have microniche finder and have been under utilizing it's potential. This helps me a lot. Now I'll look for better results!:p

this is very well made and shows nicely how to do some simple, but effective KW research in Google.

However, my problem is NOT finding the keywords..but the pricing of bids in mainstream-niches like "fat loss". Bids which are halfway attractive (say, under $0.25) usually have a very low search volume..and usually bids for the better KW are unsuitable for (most) clickbank products.

A very good example, i just checked a few of your example keywords, eg. "fat loss exercise" which shows at 1.15 EURO (!) per bid.

But..your method of course helps to find the cheap ones, even if search volume might be lower.

      Hey G

      What's up?

I totally understand what you are saying. Now I am not a ppc expert so this post was mainly for persons who want to find low competition keywords to rank for in Google. Otherwise cpc can be very high for some of these keywords even when there are little competition with regards to seo.

However I am glad I could be of 'little' help to you.

Maybe when I get good at ppc I may post a detail step by step for that as well.

      Have a great day.

      Hey femkeshe,

depending on the niche I go for a mimimum of 100 searched per month. It is not much but If you have 10 articles ranking for 10 keyword phrases that get 100 searches per month then that is 1000 searches. So you can see how it all adds up.

    Hi,

Nice guide there! I had been using it ever since and it works like a charm. But I not using MNF, instead I use Market Samurai (MS). It still works the same just that you will have all the data in one place.

    cheers

thanks yesacpow you did a really great job. Once we get the keyword research pat down everything after should be easier since "keywords" are the most important part of the campaign.

Yeps, pretty straight forward yet when it goes right down to it, its all that is needed.

When you start raking in some $$, invest on tools such as micro niche finder or market samurai. This will save you half the time to get keyword research done.

    Great post nonetheless.

I agree with you. Too many affiliates never do keyword research or go for keyword that they will have a very hard time ranking for. It's important to find the "low hanging fruit" so to speak when promoting anything, and it also works for Clickbank! Terrific post!

    Hi yesacpow!
I've done what you said and I ended up with 2713 keywords from Google's keyword tool, now I have a small problem - how do I speed up the process of checking the number of competing page for each keyword? I have a copy Keyword Elite but it does broad search as I understand and I get not accurate search volume. The second problem I faced is that a lot of these keywords have very strong competition (I already checked some) and the common pattern is a website with a decent amount of backlinks that dominates a large group of keywords. So how do I find these low competition keywords? Even if I select a keyword that has 1000 exact searches it has minimum of 100k competing pages with exact search.
P.S. You mentioned in your first post presell page. Where can read more about that?

    Thanks

If you enter a word/phrase without the "" Google assumes you are looking for broad match - this means that Google ALSO takes related words/phrases into account ---> Way broader and more search results.

If you enter "search term" then Google looks for everything containing the phrase "search term"....and if you enter [search term] it is an EXACT match and searches for ONLY the exact keyword as entered.

      Example:

You could enter weight loss (without the ") and Google could also use terms like dieting, exercises, lose belly fat since those are all BROADLY related to weight loss. (Non real life example here)
