On one of my sites, MSN gives me a top 5 keyword placement, while on Google, I wasn't even on the first page. And MSN indexed the whole site, while Google had only indexed the main page. I've noticed this for other websites as well. So do you think SEO is easier with MSN?

Pretty much yes. When I try to rank with Google, I would also almost always rank well in MSN and Yahoo. It's like a bonus package. You just work out with Google, you get MSN and Yahoo rankings free. But it's probably just because they have similar ways of ranking pages.

kind of strange for me. I find my sites initially to rank well with MSN and when I try to optimize for Google then my sites disappear from MSN !

I think so, yeah. Google would put a lot more work into their ranking system IMO, and I read msn takes a lot longer to index etc. But it's good to rank high on a few of them, everyone seems to just aim for google. |

MSN are always playing catch up to Google and have a lot less spam filters.. so I've found that first you'll get decent ranks in MSN for a certain keyword before Google gives you a score for the same keyword.. I see it like a preview of how Google will eventually index a site.

Google is much harder. After all it IS the #1 search engine out there. None the less I usually try to focus on google. That is the Search engine that usually generates the most traffic. |

Ranking with google is definitely tougher as it is the no1 search engine.. its the first SE which users log on to.. the rest comes much later.. hence route to google rankings has to be difficult..

What factors are the basis of MSN rankings? How does a Google SEO differ from MSN SEO? I understand that Google looks at backlinks, anchor text of backlinks, relevance of the site providing the backlink, importance (page rank etc) of the site providing the backlink, content of the site to be ranked with erspect to the keyword, content freshness, and a few more factors. What are those for MSN? It can not be pagerank I suppose, since Google (as I know, correct me if I am wrong) holds the pagerank patent still. Is it content? What is it that matters? |

I think if your site ranks well in Google, it will also rank well in Yahoo! and MSN. I don't really spend time optimizing my site for Yahoo! and MSN. Just my 2cents.

On-page factors seem to matter more to MSN than Google. It's also much easier to rank on Page 1 at MSN for low-competition keywords than anywhere else - if the content is on a new site. What I mean is, you can get an article at a well known article directory ranked in the top 10 at Google quickly because the site hosting your article is viewed as an authority by Google. Put that same article on your own brand new site and it won't rank for quite a while. With MSN, however, you can get that page on your new site to rank high. As long as the phrase you're targeting has low competition, all it usually takes is decent on-page SEO and a few good backlinks. I have a site right now sitting at #5 on MSN for a moderately popular search phrase that has low competition. The domain and site are less than 6 weeks old. I probably won't see it ranking in the top 10 on Google for months, unfortunately. John |

MSN is far easier than Google...however they work on 2 different algorithms...what puts you on top of google will not necessarily put you on top of MSN. There is a program called the Ultimate Seach Engine Stragedy. Do a search for it and it'll give you all your answers to get you to the top of MSN.

No. I think Google is way easier because it just seems to index websites WAY faster AND pretty much most of the SEO info you'll find online, is from people optimizing for Goog.

I just do good SEO, never try to do it for one specific search engine. I will say, as others haven mentioned, Google sends alot more traffic, with similar ranks than the rest, quite a difference, least for my keywords.
