Hi, read somewhere this was true. That registering a domain for two years (or more) gives it an edge for SEO than registering for 1 year. If true, is it a significant factor? Thanks |

I have heard this as well.. I'm not sure how true it is though.

It helps a little but it's not an absolute must have or something that is going to hurt you or give you an edge over the competition. But if you plan on having the domain for a long time you might as well register it for as long as you can.

I'm sure that someone out there has tested this. What I heard - way back when - was that Google became a "registrar" so that they could have access to the registration system and be able to query domain names and include Domain Age and Domain Expiration as part of their algo for Search Results and Page Rank calcs. |

Even if you register it a few months before it's good too. :-)

As per the Google Search patent, the value of the site is also measured using the Whois data for that particular domain but I guess it isn't a very significant factor as there are millions of blogs exist that don't even have that Registrar info but they are doing well.
