Default How to do title tags correctly - Help needed

Hi there,

Is there anything wrong with doing title tags like this:

Tapestries | Wall Hangings | Wall decor

Or, should they be like this:

Tapestries, wall hangings, wall decor

Only the thing is I have been told that the search engines stop at certain keys and I would hate to do all my work only to find it is wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help

I just read the post above. Very good information. I just want to add what I also do.
1. I also create menu links on my site with some of the more converting keywords as the anchor text.

2. I also create ALT tags for all my images on the page with the relevent keyword. One per image of course.

3. You can also create outward links to authority sites that will in turn give you a better relevency with Google. But I make these links in small font right at the bottom.

Hope this helps...

DZ

A good basic rule of thumb with page titles: get your main keyword in at or very close to the beginning. Sometimes when I'm targeting a longtail, that'll be the entire title.

Here's another tip that seems to help: include words like How To, Tips, Blueprint, and Guide. I've found that these often increase traffic even when the site hasn't moved up in the search engine rankings. It's just that more people are clicking through to my site after adding those words to the title.

Yes not very important but google will displays 66 characters of a title tag, and Yahoo presents title of 120 characters.

This isn't true, Google display more than that.

I want a good keyword researcher, not for min sites but for tech articles. Hit me up if you've got those skillz!
