Below is my no-fluff foolproof formula that I use to get not just myself, but also my clients onto page one of Google, Yahoo, and MSN search results. In my experience, Google picks up first, and the other two will follow behind shortly. I've used this method to get on page one in less than 7 days more than once, you just might have the same luck. It's more likely that it will take up to 30 days though. The Theory Google makes most of it's money off of people doing searches. That means Google is going to do it's best job to put what it considers the highest quality content at the top of the listings. If you can create a site that makes Google think that your content is specifically relevant to what is being searched, you stand a much higher chance of ranking at the top of the results. The Methods There are about 6 things that need to be modified on your website in order for it to float up to the top of the search results. Some of these are more important than others, but when everything is mixed together, you just can't lose. 1. Title tags ---------------------------------------------------------------- Title tags are one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. By using specific keywords in your title you're going to rank much higher for those terms. Not only will you rank higher, but the terms will be bolded in the search results, which means you're going to get more clicks. If you are trying to rank for "easy widget maker" then you're title tag should be something like this: "Easy Widget Maker - Just $19.99" or "Easy Widget Makers - Are they all they're cracked up to be?" You can also use it in a sentence, "Get Your Easy Widget Maker Today!" As long as you're using some form of the term, you'll get bolded in the search results. 2. Image names ---------------------------------------------------------------- The page you are optimizing should have at least one image, if not up to 3, that have the search term in the file name. For instance, you'll want use easywidgetmaker.jpg for your header or maybe an image in your content. I find that 3 images often works best. 3. The domain ---------------------------------------------------------------- I believe this to be the #1 thing you've got to do to rank well. Ok, maybe you don't NEED to do it... but if you have a domain with the keywords you want to rank for, you're almost guaranteed a page 1 position. Using the same keyword example, you'd want to buy EasyWidgetMaker.com or some derivative of that. EasyWidgetMakers.com would work as well. As long as the keyword is in the domain, you should be fine. But get as close to the root keyword as you can. Everything else that you add to it will just jumble it up. Oh yeah, and hyphen's are fine to use too. 4. Alt tags & titles ---------------------------------------------------------------- On your images and links you want to use alt and title tags respectively. For images, your code should look like this. Code: <img src="http://www.warriorforum.com/images/easywidgetmaker.jpg" alt="Easy Widget Maker" /> Code: <a href="http://www.easywidgetmaker.com/fact-sheet.html" title="Easy Widget Maker Fact Sheet">Easy Widget Maker Fact Sheet</a> This one is super important. Don't leave it out! 5. Bolded content ---------------------------------------------------------------- The first thing in your content should be your keyword, bolded. This should first be in a header, then a strong tag. The term doesn't need to be repeated 100 times in your content, just in the header and beginning is fine. By using HTML bolding (NOT CSS) you're going to signify that the term is important. Google recognizes this and will push you up accordingly. So, back to the example. Your content could look a little like this. Quote:
---------------------------------------------------------------- Your url's should contain your keywords too. So any inner pages that you want to rank, keep that in mind when creating the HTML files or posting the title in Wordpress. Here's a good example of good usage. http://www.easywidgetmaker.com/widget-making-tips.html If you've included a site map (and you have... haven't you?) on your site, Google will pick up the trend that your website is about widgets. In Conclusion So you're now educated enough to get ranked VERY well on your own. All together this should take about an hour to do. It's quick and dirty, but these little things really work. If you've spent more hours than you can count on backlinks and they just aren't working, give this on-page SEO a try and let me know how it goes for you. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that you'll rank a lot better by using these techniques. | |

I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but calling this a 'foolproof formula' just gives people false hope and makes a mockery of the skill involved in SEO |

I agree with a lot of what you wrote as far as on page SEO goes.. I must point out though that it works for uncompetitive keyword phrases but the competitive ones take a lot more effort. The good news is that as always if your content is good and useful and you get links from respected sources then you can get ranked highly for those competitive keyword phrases as well eventually. |

I agree with all of what you say, but not as the end all for SEO and guaranteed top rankings. Rather, it is a great base to start from and an excellent way to set up your pages and sites. Having a good onsite base will allow your off-site campaigns to produce better results (which you will need for any competetive term you are trying to rank for). |

The page <title> is the most weighted on page factor.... But it only works really hard if its highly relevant to the page's content. Keyword rich domains can very much be helpful, but past the domain very little value is there. So name pages and directories logically, but don't stuff nor lose any sleep over it either. Heading tags are helpful is used correctly and again relevant. Strong tags are helpful for adding a small bit of weight couple of times a page, but only for words you want to rank for... If you have text like :::Look Here::: for example, use an inline style to make the text bold... not strong =-) Image alts and link titles are great for usability... and that's why we use them right, to describe the element... not stuffed nor none too spammy More important that all of these things is the unique, fresh and regular updates of your site to reduce duplication and keep your content fresh and updated like Google likes. If you only have 3 hours a month to write 3 pages, then do 1 every ten days instead of 3 at the beginning of the month. Google likes this perseverance on your part and can return expecting fresh content. ~Melanie |

This is all good for on page seo, what about your take on, off page seo? Having keyword in domain hold weight in the search engines. Buy JUST having they keyword and doing barely seo, you can still rank OK. In my experience I've landed on 2nd page with no work at all. Imagine if my domain had no keyword in it. |
