I test everything.

So have you ever typed the beginning of a website into your browser bar, only to have your browser predict what site you intended?

I'm sure you have.

If I type "g" into my browser, I get Google, Godaddy, And my HostGator Cpanel, in that order.

They are in that order because of how many times I choose Google over Godaddy when I type "g" into my browser.

Now if I were to type in "g" and scroll pass Google and choose Godaddy, say 8 times in a row...what do you think would happen?

That's right, Godaddy would move up, and Google would move down.

Why? Relevance, User Friendliness, etc.

Did you know the SERPs work the same way?

BTW this is NOT theory. I've tested it.

I sent around 100 people straight to Google.

Told them to type in my keyword, find my site, click it, and perform a task that allowed them to appear "engaged".

Only cost me a $1 too lol.

But the test was successful, and it really comes through when you're battling in those top 3 spots

Remember, Google is a business, and they have to give the customer what they want, in order to stay in business.

That's one thing the Algorithm will never be able to stop.

I got the visitors from mturk if you were wondering.

And this could become an awesome service.

1000 people choosing your site over the ones above you would create an INSTANT boost in relevance.

Thanks for reading, I really do like this place. So many like minded people

That's not a bad idea and a pretty interesting theory.

I'll have to mess around with this.

    Sigh.

Only for those people. Not for everyone.

Google personalizes results with browser cookies. Your website will move up in the SERPs for those individuals, but not for the general public.

I too feel the same, but then why viral content gets ranked higher, because people are loving it and we are trying to duplicate the feel good factor here

As mentioned, this has been tested. The cookie thing is true, but so is the overall move up

Try searching using a Firefox or another browser in a private window using the same terms, I bet you will see different results!

      Why?

Because Google personalises your search results based on your search patterns, they use Cookies and other methods, the easiest way to stop it, is to use private browsing, or Good SEO tools

Nice information, We understand the algorithm but asking people to search for the keywords actually costs more sometimes. However I have observed this also and by this mean you could land on the first page if not at the first 3 positions in a week.

For mturk, I don't give them a url in the task set up. i want them to type in google.com themselves.

I tell them which site to look for, not a url because they will just go straight to it, in order to cut corners. So i point out something in my title or description.

I then tell them to find a certain phrase in my article, usually near the bottom, or I tell them to click thru a link and tell me whats on that page.

They then copy and paste that phrase back on mturk to prove they've done the work.

This is traffic, and traffic is just one factor of SEO in around 200 other factors..

So you have to work on other factors of SEO, unless it has high natural traffic coming from the brand name as well!

This does work. How effective it is for your particular site and keyword depends upon several other factors. In a low competition environment this can be very effective.
