Default Re: Anyone Need Help with PPC?

I have two questions.

First of all, i know this has been asked hundreds of times about people wondering how many keywords to be used for adgroups. Im a newbie but i think im going to go with the 1 keyword per adgroup.

Question is if i used a software that made this very quick and easy and used the keywords in the ads title but the ads were pretty much the same for each ad group would this make much a difference?? Do the ads need to be different or as long as the titles of the ads are different is that good enough?? I mean people who use hundreds or even thousands of keywords....would they write a different ad for each one??? Seem like that would take very long. Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

2nd questions is.....what in the heck is up with adwords support? Ive created my first test campaign and it looks like to me it is under review and its going on for two days now. Ive read of some people having to wait weeks? What is up with that? Im going through now checking my quality score and they all seem to be ok or great and considered active but keywords not triggering any ads. Ads not showing. Im guessing they are under review but why taking so long?

Heathcliff, as long as the ad text pertains to each and every keyword, yes you can use the same ad. I don't, but I also don't use thousands of keywords either, unless I am scaling a campaign, but certainly not to start.

As for the reviews. I have been looking into some peoples campaigns for them and I am find certains niches or keywords in the ad text, can often trigger a review from Google. They do have a chat feature so you can get support, have you used it? If you want me to check your account I can tell you what I think, but you could just as easily tell me the niche on pm and I can help you there as well.

Doc_web my email is marywgreen@gmail.com feel free to send me the campaign there.

Johagulo, the best campaign I think, is one that has 100% roi or more. What are you really asking though? I like campaigns that are set up for specific sites, when I have control over the thank you page, the copy on the vendors site, etc.

Hi Mary,

I have always been told to create Multiple LPs for different keywords in order to get a higher QS and conversion rate. I've never actually tried this and i'm not exactly sure how to do this. I also have no idea how to split test LPs. Do I need to purchase different domain names for this or can I just create subdomains? Also, would you recomend doing this for every keyword or just the high traffic ones?

Thanks,

Shane

I would recommend doing it for groups of keywords, you dont need a different landing page for dog training, dog training books, and dog training classes, when you can just make sure 1 page has all of them on it. As for split testing, all you need is different pages on the main domain, no need for subs or a new domain altogether. Basically, you have a landing page at domain.com/index.html copy that, and put it into domain.com/index2.html and then change the content to have the new keywords in it.

you can track with direct linking, no problem, use a subid, as for qs depends on your ctr and how related the site to what you are bidding with. I love polls i say go for it.

I really like TrafficVance for cpv ads. But I have also used Media Traffic as well.

Starting out on a limited budget. What is the lowest daily budget to hit to see some results? 25.00 a day? I heard run first in other countries for adwords then jump back to USA to throttle down CPC. I can't afford some crazy 1.00 per click right now. Just wondering what people do in the beginning when starting out PPC.

I am doing article marketing it is just a slower process. Any help for a newb wanting to leave his fulltime job in the near future.

Hi Shane, I would start with as little as $5 a day and just bid what you can. As long as you dont choose a super competitive niche you should be able to get cheaper clicks than $1 each.

As for articles marketing I have done that too. It is a slow process but I still get sales from the 1st site I ever set up.

Shane,

The best results I had in terms of return on investment (not volume), was spending only $69 in adspend to return just over $1000 in commissions during a single month with a single product! Around $2.30 a day for budget. I targeted USA and other main countries straight off the bat.

It can be done, as long as you find the right product and strategy.

One more thing in adwords I tried one day to do a 100.00 a day and lost 100.00 and made $30 now I can't find a place to change the total amount they will charge per day. Or right now they will bill me every $200.00 which is kind of scary for me right now lol. Can you set amount charged after raising a daily budget like that?

Was that 69$ total adspend for a month? Or adspend per day?

It was adspend for the month I believe. And yes it can happen. You can change the settings usually in the campaign settings, if you cant get it, im me at ticklebug82 on aim or yahoo im usually invisible and give me your customer id and i will fix it up for you quick. Id hate to see you lose more money than you need to.

Mary,
First off, "THANK YOU" for this thread. Here's my issues

1) My content network ads aren't getting impressions and clicks even after being up for 3 weeks. My keywords are tight, for example
weight training exercises
weight training techniques
weight training for women

So you can see the root kw is "weight training". I've recently (5 minutes ago), changed my CPC from 0.10 to 0.02 but increase my daily campaign spend from $5 to $20 to see if it was a bidding price issue.

2) In search I go with one keyword per adgroup. So if my ad is for a chest training product I get "chest training" (keyword given to me by googles site search keyword tool). All keywords at the beginning are exact match. Not getting much clicks or impressions. My copywriting skills are good so I know it's not the ad copy. Should I go all keywords borad match? I don't want to waste money though?

For weight training, I think your cpc might be too low. I would start at atleast 30 cents a click. What is your cpc for the search network? I assume you have both the content and search in different campaigns, correct? If not be sure to split them up. As for search I can't training costing less than $1 cpc you might need to turn it up.

Mary, I am new to PPC, but have some questions for you. All of the longtail keywords I want to use all say ".05 bid". Is this normal or am I missing something because it almost seems to good to be true. I mean some of the keywords I have found have good traffic as well.

I mean will it cost me more than .05 a click? Just a little confused.

Hi PPC Mom
I've tried a number of PPC campaigns.(Google Clickbank)no success.
So I must still be a newbie.
If your goal was to make $100/day... can you give a brief A B C approach from your knowledgeable viewpoint? Best kind of products etc.

Hi PPC Mom,

Could you please recomend a good conversion tracking tool?
I've tried Statsjunky, Prosper 202, and Tracking 202 but can't seem to get any of them to work properly.

StatsJunky isn't too responsive on the support questions...

Tracking 202 uses a lot of redirects that I feel surfers wouldn't be patient enough for and that Google might not like...

Prosper 202 seems like an arduous setup, but I am going to tackle it next.

I'm looking for something Ican use for both Direct Links and landing pages.

Thanks!

We have recently changed the support service we were using, we found that there was an issue with emails being both received and sent by us and our customers. This is now no longer an issue as we have switched support systems.

I wanted to ask this: You suggested I should track which keywords drove sales, my question is How? I'm quite new to PPC so not sure if this is a dumb question.

The technique i use is to create 1 adgroup per keyword - do only exact and phrase match. I also tag my keyword at the end of my destination URL

eg: Destination Url: http:// fatloss.info?{keyword:fatloss}

This way you can track

I have one tip - if your keywords are not performing well at conversions, change the match type from Broad match to phrase match or exact match.

I have a question - if you add the keyword 'gum tape machine' to a ad group, does it automatically match a search query "gum tape machines", to avoid having to enter two keywords i.e, gum tape machine and gum tape machines, should I use [gum tape machine] or "gum tape machine"?

What question are you asking Paul? Do you have something specific you want to know about the content network?

Hi there!
My concern is that the content network is a bit slow to start, is there a way to make it faster? Also, is direct linking still alive with search ppc?

I am curious about quality score. I have an account that I havnt used since January and I loaded an ad group today with a link to my blog. I have the keyword in the ad, and the title of the blog page is also using the keyword and i have tagged the page with the same keywords. 5 mins after loading campaign into google i noticed i only have quality score of 5 . I dont understand how i can be any more relevant?

In a content campaign do you recommend:

1) One ad group with many keywords (25 or so) broad match
2) One ad group with one keyword broad match.

I've been building my campaigns with 25 but I just read Perry Marshall's guide and he says only one. ??

zoobie...is there something wrong with you????

4 % is a great number...really.. of course..do aim for 10 and above if you can. but ultimately you gotta see if the CTR rate and the conversions to sales is on par to deem if a campaign is profitable

4% is a good CTR, but seriously there is no reason why you shouldn't consistently get 10% and above with highly relevant ads, keywords and landing pages.

Agree! 4% is already a good number for search! But you have to have a good QS to maintain it profitable. Good luck!

As I'm still very new to PPC I don't have too many stories to tell.. but my first and only experience with Google Adwords so far...
I put $80 (prepaid) on my account. Found a few clickbank offers, setup my keywords (I must admit - didn't do proper keyword research.

I soon realised my keywords were not getting enough traffic or my CPC bid wasn't high enough. Nothing was happening and I wasn't getting any clicks at all. So I decided to take the opposite approach. I picked shorter keywords with much higher search volumes... and I'm sure my $80 was gone in 1/2 hour lol

At the end of the day I made 2 sales and made around $20. I was both disheartened that I had lost money, yet excited that I made a couple of sales. Before I put more money money on my account I think I'll be wanting to learn how to correctly do keyword research.

My question is... should I be spending money on keyword research software, or are there enough free tools out there?

Joel

The tools within google itself are extremely valuable. First of all you have the keyword tool, then google insights which give you rising and popular searches and if you use google chrome just type in your main keyword in the search bar and it will give you a list of keywords that people are typing in and searching for. this is also a great method for finding negative keywords.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your generous help with everyone here with PPC.

In your original post you stated the following:

"Buying a domain for redirecting to the vendor page:
As long as you use the correct script you can do this. I have even used sub domains for this."

I don't understand this process. Can you please explain how the redirect works and why Google would not see this as a duplicate landing page for their one page serving rule?

Thanks,
Dianne

Who am I helping?
I've done a lot of learning when it comes to PPC so if you have a question at any level, let me know and I will do my best to get you an answer, however most of these questions are on the newbie to intermediate level.

Longtail Keywords:
Sometimes long tail keywords don't get a lot of traffic. They are more specific, but get a lot less searches. If you find a keyword with few competitors it might be that the search term is just searched too little to make it effective.

Doing Polls for CPA offers:
I have done great with polls for CPA offers and I definitely recommend ppc coach, check out my PPC Journey link to read a review. The scripts and the forum there are the best for the poll method.

About Landing Pages:
There are a lot of different landing pages you can try to use to send PPC traffic to, I recommend direct linking first, and finding out what your competitors use for their campaigns. Chances are they are using landing pages that work for the niche. Use the time machine tool in the free part of keywordspy to see if they have been running their campaigns long. If they have, copy what kind of page they have, with no plagarism of course.

About Optin Forms:
I have not done a lot of lead collecting with PPC, but intend to start. I think it is a great way to build a list while making money. My main problem has been email marketing, I always fell behind a little there. So yes if you can build a list with PPC first in a niche, then offer the CPA offer, great idea, go for it. Just be ready to lose some people who won't want to optin.

Keywords:
One word keywords are very broad, and usually very expensive because they can get so much traffic and a lot of people don't know better to not bid on them. The example below was employment for an employment website. I would try to bid on search terms that are still getting a good deal of traffic, but don't cost nearly as much. I tend to stick to 2 and 3 word keywords, anything longer doesnt seem to get enough traffic. Check the keyword tools to see what keywords are getting a lot of searches in your niche, target the ones with a lot of searches and lower CPC. As a rule you also need a Beautiful negative keyword list.

Step by Step Campaign:
I am running a series on this in My PPC Journey, you can see a new post to it this afternoon.

Linking to the Order Page:
If you are so great at preselling that you feel the merchant page is killing your conversions you can link to their order page. The best thing to do is to try it and see. One of the biggest things you have to know about PPC is to test test test.

Your Website:
Have your landing page on a website, make sure you have the About us, contact us, privacy, terms, etc pages. Google wants to see a website that is constantly growing, so you want to add new content regularly. Now this doesnt mean you have to start with this. What I do is direct link, then build a lander, if all goes well, I build a whole niche site around it.

Direct Linking:
You can direct link still, the rule is that you can not direct link while another affiliate is doing it on the same keyword. However you can get around this short term. I use a redirect mask script for this, it works for the first several days usually which gives me an idea on how well the campaign will do.

Yahoo Accounts:
To be able to upload campaigns and such quickly you need a Gold account, call Yahoo and convince them your account is going to be so large that you need this feature. If one person says no, try another. Other than that you can send them the campaign to upload for you.

Quality Score:
For every campaign you get a quality score before you even launch. It is based on other competitors experiences and your own history with QS. An example below talks about a 10/10 QS while not even being related to the niche. I can't explain that, I wouldn't think it would last too long, but Google is ever changing.

More on QS:
Usually you need a keyword that pertains to your campaign, ad and landing page. They all need to be related. This will get you the highest QS.

Buying a domain for redirecting to the vendor page:
As long as you use the correct script you can do this. I have even used sub domains for this.

Other PPC Engines to Use:
I have never used MSN, but I do and have used Yahoo, it is slower, which I hate, but still works. I love Google, but Yahoo is a good alternative.

Clickbank Gravity:
I usually stick with something at 30 and less than 100, seems to have fewer competitors. However it depends on the niche, if something else in the same niche is doing HUGE with the same keywords, that is a lot of competition.

CPC vs. CPM:
cost per click is when you are paying for each click seperately. CPM is when you pay for 1000 impressions of your ad. You have to compare your ads and see what is more cost effective.

Tidy Up Your Accounts:
In both search and content I put 1 keyword per adgroup, and 2 ads. I have just started doing this for content. If you have a new account there are restrictions on your account, something like 100 adgroups per campaign or something like that, so you need to split things up. You don't want a list of keywords that is too large to manage. By the way, the search and content campaigns are completely separate, never altogether in one campaign.

CPC:
This is closely related to your QS and CTR, on search you need a CTR of 1-2% minimum and on content .05% is good. If you have anything lower your CPC is almost certainly going to go up.

Taking Campaign from Search to Content:
An example was where he turned off search and turned on Content. I dont know why you would do this, it is NOT a good idea, but he did it and the campaign stopped running. There could be a lot of reasons why. Mostly I am thinking it can take up to 4 days for a content network campaign to start.

Here is a quick way on how I start a campaign:
Take the landing page you are targetting over to the google keyword tool, to see what keywords google thinks your site is about.

Once you know use those keywords to plug back into the tool and see what else you can come up with, I love the second part of the list that shows other related searches. Get your list between 50-100 different keywords long.

Take those keywords and set up a campaign, phrase match, 2 ads each keyword. 1 keyword per ad group.

Now watch and tweak. I would do at least $10 a day in budget. Now depending on the niche you might need to increase that, do more creative keyword research, or
use fewer keywords. Really depends on the CPC you are trying for.

You want to get a good CTR to start with, then start tweaking from there. Do NOT choose keywords that are too basic or broad, narrow it down to get better results.

I obviously cant teach everything there is to know about PPC in this post, but, this should get you started without losing your shirt.

Exporting a Campaign:
If you want to send me a campaign I can tell you what I think is wrong with it. For exporting a campaign you need Adwords Editor, download it for free and send me the campaign to marywgreen gmail.com

LPGen:
landing page generator is a script that puts keywords throughout your site based on the search term someone uses from Google. this is suppose to increase your QS. I find that theme based landing pages work just as well and think Google is catching onto this script insertion of keywords.

How Long it Takes to Get Started:
I have always seen my ads go live within hours on Google. I could look at the campaign in question and give my opinion.

Clickbank Keywords:
Bid on the benefit keywords, put the benefits in your ads. I bid on review keywords too, but those arent always the most money making keywords because people arent yet sure what they want, it can work though, if they are at that point of the buying process. I hardly ever use product name + review though, because most clickbank product names don't get enough searches to make it worth. Some do, not all.

Favorite Keyword Tools:
Google Keyword tool and free wordtracker.

I have about 5 more questions to post the answers to here, but any new questions can just be posted, all will be answered here.

Here is a link to the post in pdf form so far
http://ppcmom.com/post622.pdf
thanks for this. Where can i learn ppc

Thanks for the awesome thread. Learning a lot. I have a few questions

1) How many keywords do you suggest when you start a search campagin on google? The guys in PPC class room say to go to with 1 exact match. What do you think?

2) What have you found to be the best way to get more impressions with the same budget? Just get a better quality score and keep tweaking your landing page. Is it as easy as bidding higher per click? Also, with the content network, what have you found to be the best way to get more impression with the same budget?

Thanks
