Askimet Plugin Problems?

hi guys,

i have my friend the other day complaining to me about his account being banned from some forums because of Askimet. I don't know much about how does it really function.

Does anyone here know about Askimet Plugin which is suppose to detect spam. But he is not spamming and in fact he knows the owner of the site in the NL. as they are partners. So he doesn't need to spam their own sites.

Is there a way to go around it? Or has anyone well verse with Askimet and can kindly shed some more light as I am trying to help as they ask for my help and don't know what to say to them.

I wrote this article about it some time ago and it's still pretty accurate although they've tightened up and improved in some of the areas I mentioned back then. Akismet: Heading Toward Failure?.

Thanks very much for this information as now I am more in the know. I have already contacted my friend and he said he might take the Askimet down and i am little bit concern.

Do you think it would be wise to take the askimet down?

As it seems there is not much you can do with...

BTW. BGmacaw,
Would Askimet ban the IP Address? because now I just found out that my account which was working 30 minutes ago is now ban and it's not fair as I have just post a comment.

Now I try to make another account just to test it and the same thing happens... my new account is banned!

Is it possible that my IP address is also ban?

They will ban on IP sometimes but most often it's on email address. For example, if you do something like...

Name: Free Money
Email: myname123456@gmail.com
Url: http:/ /site#1.com

...and then...

Name: Discount Pants
Email: myname123456@gmail.com
Url: http:/ /site#2.com

They'll often ban you on that basis where you're using the same email for different name/url combos.

Thanks BGmcaw, Now I am beginning to get a better understanding of how Askimet functions.

I just hope my friend will not remove his askimet as he needs protection from spammers.

Any alternative to askimet?
