Default Case Study- #5 on Google 18 Million 22,000 Searches

ADMINS- I accidently posted this originally in the adsense ppc section by mistake... please delete from that section as I can't see how I can delete it.

I just want to show everyone that sometimes the reality of being on the first page of Google doesn't always translate into a ton of traffic even for what should be a highly searched term.

I don't want to reveal the actual site as I don't want it to effect my CTR or adsense earnings but here is what I've done.

I went after a niche I knew from previous experience that there was a lot of search traffic for but was hard to convert using PPC to a clickbank product.

So I created what I call a bare bones blog (wordpress) on a keyword rich domain name. I installed some plug-ins like All In One SEO and a Adsense plug-in. Took about an hour to get everything done.

I added some posts to get it started...

I then bought a press release on Webwire.com ($20) and chose a keyword that showed promise for being highly searched for (monthly searches 22,000) with little competition using NicheBot as my tool for this research.

I placed the press release mid-week (could have gotten longer exposure on the weekend though). The first day I almost made enough back on adsense to pay for the press release alone as the press release showed up in Google pretty quickly and ranked highly for 1 day and then started falling.

I digged my press release and bookmarked it also. It fell pretty quickly the following day and then just about disappeared a few days later. I thought that was the end of it but I continued to place some links back to the press release and my site also.

After a few days though I had made all my money back for the press release and my domain name so I considered it a successful test either way as I just wanted to see if I could rank and then stay ranked for a period of time. It looked like I could rank high at first but it didn't look like it would have any staying power.

But after approximately a week or so the press release came back on the first page of Google at #5 and has fluctuated from #5 to #10 for a keyword that gets approximately 22,000 searches per month. But the real story here is that out of all this... my daily traffic has leveled off at approx 30-35 daily uniques which is kind of crazy since the keyword itself shows apparently enough traffic that it should be considerately more.

Maybe this press release wasn't compelling enough to get them to click on my link or either the traffic that Google shows is really off?

The site currently makes approximately $1.50 per day from adsense. Which if this stays steady converts to around $547.50 for the year "if it stays steady".

So the moral of this story for me is that even though you can rank high in Google for a pretty good keyword on a secondary site like Webwire doesn't always translate into a ton of traffic unless you can get them to click through to your site...
