So Google tell us that they no longer care much about keywords in SEO.
Content is more important.
That is good, I can understand this.
So, we go and start building a site around a certain subject and create great content.

So now the dilemma.
How is it possible to track the position of the site in the search engines.
Every tool that I've come across that can track the position of your site would want you to input at least one keyword with your URL to be able to tell you that your site is on page "X" in Google.

Any comments?
Thanks.

I would suggest that you worry about getting visitors to your site rather than worry about rankings. If you post fresh quality content to your site and promote it then people will come.

    So using:

    -YouTube
    -Social Media
    -Content/Article Marketing

Will bring people to your site. The best way to get targeted traffic to your site is guest blogging. Website owners are always looking for content for their site. If you provide that then you will get a link back to your site.

Supply content for people already in your niche. If you don't know where to start then check out this site:

Guest blogging: Looking for guest bloggers or guest post? Join MyBlogGuest!

Do this then you will get noticed by Google. I know you want to get rankings to get organic traffic however concentrating on where you are in the search engine rankings eats up your valuable time.

Supplying fresh quality content to your site on a regular basis and researching what you reader wants will bring you traffic and Google will notice anyway.

All Google want is to deliver the people who use their search facility great content, which necessarily includes excluding those sites they see as trying to manipulate them. So if you've got great content, Google will like that.

So, of course will your visitors - and I find that in tougher (SEO) niches, they are much easier to attract using Facebook these days rather than relying on Google.

Google says it to fool us, keywords still works, and if you target keywords in your articles it's good, besides the quality of your content the backlinks also play a vital role.

Keywords are still important in rankings. I would believe they are still useful in ranking a website. However, we must not rank keywords like we used to before. Now the priority is your target market, like the comments above here say, it is very important to focus on good content but still a good, natural 'optimized' content. You may refer to articles and blogs about how to 'weave' keywords in your content after G's algo changes. That may help you understand more on how you're supposed to use keywords now.

Sure keywords are as important as they were before. First, go for branding and then for targeted KWs. Try to keep it under 8% and you will be fine... (I have websites where targeted KW is as high as 15% and I'm top3 with no change after P2.1...)

That being said, SEO is changing. While thinking about keyword you want to rank for, try to see a broader perspective and imagine the keywords people will use to finally land on your website...and use them onPage and on satellite websites...

I think you are mistaken. Without relevant keyword-based search results, Google would be worthless. They still use keywords for rankings and always will unless they want to destroy their own company. They don't want you to over-optimize for keywords. But they are still looking for relevant content that has on-topic keywords.

I would also take into consideration the top positions on the serp. If you are really wanting to get statistical value, count the keywords in the titles, urls, descriptions, body, images, etc. Then find an average or even model after the top result. Google put that result there because of it's content. Why not copy what's working for that individual search? Of course this doens't take into consideration offpage seo.

The key things to worry about are bounce rate, time spent on site and repeat visitors. Get these metrics right and you're onto a winner.

MFA articles sites generally have a bounce rate of 70-90% and people spent 1-2 minutes on them. USEFUL sites have bounce rates of around 30% and people stick around for 6 minutes.

One thing I don't worry about is Adsense since I don't have an account.

Keywords still play an important role, It's about using those keywords to give readers actual information that they can enjoy and benefit. Not using profitable keywords and then making sub-par articles in which case its obvious your only reason for doing so is to make profit.

I would say keywords still for sure matter. How Is G going to know when to serve your page up without keywords? That being said, the content Is a big factor as well. I say they go hand In hand.

As for keyword rankings, there are plenty of software that can do the job. I personally just use Scrapebox's Rank Tracker, just because I purchased SB and all addons a while back. Might as well make use of all the tools on my server. I don't mind running a few keyword ranking checks for you real quick, shouldn't take more than a couple minutes. Just don't send me too many keywords
