What is consider a Good Adword Quality Score

Any PPC old timer here?

Though have been in IM world for quite sometimes, I am still consider new to PPC. Will like to seek some advices here.

I am curious about what is consider a good Adword Quality Score.

Is 7 a good one? How easy is to improve from 7 to 8 then to 9?
Is it well worth the effort to improve just by 1 point?

What is consider an average score then?

Anything above 7 is good. You can improve your quality score with a high click through rate, and relevancy.

Initially I aim for positions 1-3 to achieve the high ctr. If you can maintain a ctr above 10% you will notice your actual cpc drop significantly. Once your cpc comes down you want to aim for positions 4-8 where the ROI is better.

To achieve relevancy it's a good idea to run your landing page through the google keyword tool to see what google thinks the page is about. From the results you can adjust your landing page content if necessary.

Currently I am monitoring some keywords with score of 7 and currently at position 1-3.
CTR not that great though.

Might test out lowering my cost to position 4-8

I am still thinking if it is worth the effort to move the score up a little.

In my mind, I am just thinking about how to increase score, lower cost and amend site to increase profit :P Totally forgot about testing :P

once, you hit 7 you are good. ad testing is the best way to increase your ranking, you could always try working on the site you are sending people to if it is yours.

I found that by spit testing my ad's like what Kim was saying has really helped me get a better CTR and therefor a better score. I found that has been the best thing for me so far to get the score up.

I believe content network's impression is not considered as part of the equation for the Score calculation. Correct me if I am wrong.

7 is good and I'd say average but of course, you want to try to get higher. I have whole campaigns averaging 8.5, lots of 8s, 9s and 10s in there obviously. It's not always easy and sometimes you wonder why you get a 7 or 8 or even a 10. But it can be done.

Anything under 7 needs to be reviewed and fixed in my opinion. I think it is worth it to improve QS, which is really improving your CTR for the most part. That's how you'll get lower CPC.

There is no QS for content network. That could change in the future however. QS by the way is now calculated "on the fly" for each search.

Cinneide, getting huge number of impressions in the content is typical as is a low CTR, that is compared to search. My own rule of thumb is to get a CTR 1/10 that of search. So if search gets 5%, I want 0.5% on content. My minimum cut off is 0.1%. There are many factors affecting CTR on content, one of which is where on the page the ads are being displayed.

Content is very different too. A whole book could be written on it. You have to try different things and think differently. I have however got CTRs of 1.5% on the content network by careful site targeting and compelling ads, different than those used for the search campaign.
