My website only went up last thursday.. so maybe im doing something right? I would like more traffic. so far, only 413 uniques. i havent advertised much either.

I was just reading this thread, and popped over to check out your blog, and noticed that the "forum" link opens in the same window as your blog. Have you thought about having it open in a new window, as there is no link back to the blog, from the forum?

If you are serious about IM do not put your blog in free sites like blogspot.

You are promoting others site when you do off-site optimization; plus, you'll earn less because G owns blogger and I guess they'll deduct a fee from your adsense revenue for hosting your blog - fair enough. --- Because I feel I earn less if I host my blog at their site.

Sure thing, some things can be tricky, and it was only a suggestion. Some people prefer to leave the links opening in the same window, but for me its a pain in the ass, when I have to use the "back" button. Expecially when I inadvertantly close the page down thinking the original page is still up.

I have been on the site now, and left a comment on one of the posts, as "Trulykiwi". It was the post about playing guitar, on the music section.

I am happy to talk if you would like to put a link up somewhere on one of my sites. I noticed some adult language on the site though, so it would need to be out of the eyes of the kids that are on some sites I have.

Duality32 - There are many ways to improve your Adsense revenue.

First of all, Adsense works best on a site with a narrow theme (or niche). Your site seems to have no real common topic, but is just a series of ramblings about all sorts of different things. As a result the ads you get will be all over the map and not really contextually targeted at all. As a result your visitors aren't going to see ads that are likely to interest them (and therefore fewer clicks) but your site will likely be smart-priced so eventually you are going to only get a few pennies per click. If you really want to make money with Adsense you either have to A) start a new site that is narrowly focused, or B) get such a staggering amount of traffic that you can't help but make money even if you are smart-priced. Obviously option A is much simpler to achieve.

So, before you go further you need to research and find a niche that is not only profitable, but is relatively popular among searchers, yet does not have an incredibly high level of competition. Ideally you will also have some knowledge and/or passion for the subject. Don't go for anything too broad like weight loss, or credit card debt because the competition is just too stiff to make any headway. You can still focus on these topics if you want, but you'll want to drill down to find a sub-niche that doesn't have so much competition

Once you've decided on a niche you next want to register a domain name. For SEO purposes you want your domain name to contain the keyword phrase of the niche you are targeting. Something like myfreenotepad.com isn't really relevant to anything (unless your niche is free notepads). Doing this will give you a natural boost in the SERPs for your chosen keyword phrase, and will also mean that anyone linking to you will be automatically using your keyword phrase without even having to use anchor text.

Make sure when posting that every post is a longtail keyword phrase related to your niche. Try and work in your keyword phrases naturally into each article. Don't overdo it, just make sure the keywords you are targeting appear at least once.

Limit the number of posts per page to one. This will help ensure that the ads that get served to you are as relevant as possible to your post, and thus visitors to your site will be more likely to click on them.

Finally, there is the question of placement itself. The top left is generally the hotspot for obtaining the highest Adsense CTR. A 300x250 block at the top left of the post with the text wrapped around it tends to perform pretty well on most sites. From there it is just a case of experimenting with colors to see what produces the best CTR. Some webmasters suggest you try and blend the ads as much as possible while others claim to get better results by making the ads contrast as much as possible to their template design so as to draw the eye. Tweak and experiment over the course of a few months to see what produces the highest CTR.

Though this might seem like a lot of work this is still just the beginning. Writing quality content, constant keyword research, and backlinking are all ongoing tasks that are necessary to help your site's traffic and therefore your Adsense revenue grow. Good luck!

The whole point to my blogsite is this. An all in one site where you can go and write in any category and maybe stumble across something that might interest you. Also, i get to put what words i want the adwords to display. I dont have it check my content. I figure if people want to blog on my site i would use words like, blog, writing and such. so that the ads are about that. I'm not sure a niche website would be what i want. I dont know why it would make things better or whatnot. Also, the website name has to do with the fact that you can write whatever you want here and you dont have to pay for it.

I'm sure it will be an interesting website, but it won't be one that Adsense will work well on because of the issues I've outlined above.

I understand about venting, and I have a couple of sites where I do the same, just not where kids can see it. I am cool with swapping links, and I can contribute some articles or comments, etc to your blog, whatever suits.

Adsense earns money best when it's on a niche site that's targeted toward keywords that people who're in a buying mood search for. For example, somebody searching for "Dayton OH DUI Lawyer" isn't looking to talk socially about DUI lawyers but they need to engage the services of a lawyer. This is where real money is made with Adsense. Earnings on a site where the emphasis is on being social will be quite low and earnings on sites that aren't well targeted around a narrow group of buying keywords will be low as well.

The problem is that this visitor doesn't click ads. They're information seekers, not buyers. You can sometimes get semi-targeted information seekers to turn into buyers but it's more of a sure thing to target buyers from the start. In my experience, it's the difference between making 50 cents a day and $20+ a day on a site using Adsense.

That's a very good start. There are lot of people who try out Adsense and don't even earn that much as you do in month or two.. maybe even longer. Just don't stop posting on your blog. Create content and you will see a increase in income. If you hit >$5 a day then you should start thinking about testing ad positions or different colors and styles.

Maybe you should also try another network like Chitika Adsense together for extra income.
