Default social bookmarking and duplicate content

Hi,

well there has to be a first message so there it is.

disclaimer : i'm a bit of a newbie to social media/network marketing so i'm sure this question will sound trivial to some of you veterans !

The question i have is if you bookmark your article on digg and a few digg-likes or if you publish it in several article directories, does google see it as duplicate content ? I hear people bookmarking their articles on like 30 social bookmarkeing sites so how does that not count as Duplicate ?

I'm sure thre is something i'm missing.

Thanks in advance for your light...

Boris

its not a duplicate one as long as you post your same entry on different social bookmarking sites. Logically, it is really not one...

The duplicate content myth has been blown out of proportion. The duplicate content filter only applies to the same content appearing on the same domain, multiple times. Remember its only a filter and not a penalty.

Take Press Releases for example. That is the same content posted to thousands of websites all over the internet. Believe me, you never see those websites penalized for duplicate content and it definitely doesnt have a negative effect on your website rankings, quite the opposite.

Since your link appears on every copy of your press release that is published, Google knows your article was the origional and ranks it accordingly.

Will be the next authority article directory. Come take a look around. Submit and Publish your own articles.

Duplicate content filter does exists... but not duplicate content penalty.

IF you have same content on multiple sites, google will only show 1 or mostly 2 of it, all will be filtered out...

That's why unique content still have more weight... both listing on result page and as a quality back link.

Oh nice, I had no idea. I too bought into the dup content myth.

This makes my day, as I was thinking about it all wrong.

Although I did suspect that it was more of a filter , rather than a penalty.

well the submission is for the traffic and the links & the duplicate content penalty is a myth, hint : check the news sites.

ok thanks for helpful answers.
But a lot of sites steal content so what if the y end up ranking on the search engines and YOUR orginal article gets discarded by google ? Could that happen or can google know the "publishing order" ?

I wish some warrior would put this to bed once and for all.
The debate comes up a lot.
I worry, then I don't worry. Then worry, then don't.

I think what people are really emphasizing is having
original, unique content on your own website as
much as possible. I did get slapped for having article
stuffed, so there is some truth to this. But having
fresh, unique, original content seems to be what is
emphasized over and over. But to toss something else
in that was touched on above, what if someone steals
your content? There has to be something in google that
would realize this happens. Certainly having the same
article on several pages of one domain would seem
rather likely to get penalized. But EA has the same
articles on thousands of websites and they seem to
be doing okay.

It is not duplicate as you are using the main source of url everywhere and the content you uploaded is CS pass so its not duplicate. You can submit it to as many directories and social bookmarking websites and it will benefit you as well.
Thanks

I'v edine quite a bit of experimenting on DC, and I've come up with empirical evidence that proves your statement is not entirely accurate.

The filter can also be applied to content appearing in different domains.

If you have some duplicate content on your own site only that will be an issue and you will not get more traffic, that will bring you a kind of failure from the view of google. However, if you post the same thing(content) in social bookmarks or article directories or any other sites.... that canNOT be counted as a duplicate content.... even google too thinks the same
