Hey Warriors, How many backlinks does your site need to have in order to rank high with the search engines? Interesting question, isn’t it? It popped in my mind when I first started to notice my site getting higher rankings. I have been witnessing IgorHelpsYouSucceed go up in the rankings from being on 6th page on “Internet Marketing Mastermind” search listings to moving up to the 3rd, 2nd and finally to the first page of Google and Yahoo. I have done a lot of SEO research throughout the past couple of month and the term “backlinks” was practically beaten into my huge, wooden head. I have been obsessed with backlinks for about two weeks, if I remember correctly, until I have realized that if I produce quality content, which is more interesting to read than most of my competitors’, I would have no problem with SEO and Ranking High with Google, because great content goes Viral. Exactly one and a half weeks later, I have realized that an incredible thing had happened! I WAS RIGHT! It rarely happens, but it does, and this time I was actually right! My traffic grew, sales, sign ups, subscriptions, you name it. So, does it mean that backlinks are the Holy Grail of SEO? |

Backlinks are vital if you want to compete within a semi comptetive - competitive market / niche. You really need to have all your factors in place in order to succeed. ie - Good products, content, trust factor etc. |

I think that a lot of people put too much emphasis on high PR links. Sure these links have value, but so do regular lower pr links. |

I think there are 3 main things that you need to rank high. 1. Quality, Unique Content 2. Onpage SEO 3. Offpage SEO, i.e. backlinks If you are not good at seo, write quality content and the backlinks will come, albeit they will take longer than if you were link building yourself. Social Bookmarking - Bookmark each post to at least 12 sites Article Directory Submissions - Submit at least 5 articles to at least 10 directories Blog Commenting - Submit at least 15 comments on blogs related to your niche If you do this...you will be at least 70% of the way to getting your site ranking high. |

if a backlink has no real value with the search engines, than what is the point of getting it? Waste of time... Igor

I love it when people blurt out rubbish. Igor, I have a site that is ranked no#3 in google with 188,000,000 competing sites. If you think it's a waste of time, don't do it. But don't mislead other fellow warriors. Peace. |

| I agree, links from lower PR but relevant pages are still valuable. Remember, these low PR pages may become high PR pages over time. Don't just pick apples from the top of the tree when there are lots at the bottom as well.

The thing you need to realize is that even low PR sites have this potential. Say you create a page on a Squidoo like site with a PR of 1. Now, if you do a mini link building campaign for that single page (article marketing, social bookmarking, etc.) you could actually create a backlink from a page with a higher PR than that of the original domain. My point is, never dismiss a backlink because it is from a "low PR" site. Most of the backlinks you get are low in PR in the first place.
