Ok Warriors I need your input. I've been doing IM by writing articles with affiliate links and using Awords for campaigns. Now my question is: why are there no sponsored links when you type in "weather" for Google Search? Does that mean that there is a wide open field to campaign under that keyword. I mean, think EVERYONE types in weather and their ZIP code. Now when you type in "work from home" there's not enough pages to go around. Can some of you veterns explain this to me? PS. I hope I didn't give out a secret here. |

Could be multiple reasons. 1. google won't allow you to advertise on that kw for TOS infringment. (changing soon) or 2. no money in the kw so no one bids there. <--- This is most likely the reason. Try it see what happens. Google will give you a reason why if your ad gets taken down. |

Thanks for the feedback. I just noticed when I type in "jump" it shows nothing. Yet when you type in "jump higher" there is all kinds of sponsored links. I'll look into this. Thanks again. |

Only people who are looking for much less freely available information are usually willing to pay for it. You need to focus on the market that your product is targeted to and select key words that relate specifically to that market. Just my thoughts, Jeff.

Jeff is on the money, "weather" is way to general of a term and is not even close to a buying type keyword. Now in your next example of "jump" again not a lot of buying potential there, to general, but "jump higher" has some buying potential. It is a NEED that someone possibly wants addressed. Like someone that needs to jump higher for sports, like basketball, football or high jump. It also could indicate shoes that could assist in training for jump higher. I hope that I communicated this well enough. The main thing in PPC is to focus on buying keywords that will target the type of traffic that you want so this traffic converts and you make some money. |

How is this different than the Google Search Engine? I'm looking into promoting solar products and thought the wind and sun would go well with the KW "weather". If I googled weather and I live in SoCal wouldn't a solar ad catch my attention? Just thinkin' Thanks again for your input.

There's nothing wrong with no sponsored ads showing up on a search for the word "weather" as it is a very generic phrase, and it's natural to assume that folks typing in that phrase is just looking for weather reports, etc.... Try "weather station" or "weather kit" and see the results. You gotta grill down and be more KW targeted. |

runfast If your looking to do a more targeted search, want to use google and utilize the weather angle for your searches you may want to try googles content network. Take your KW weather and look at the top ten natural search results. See if any of them are using adwords. If they are use the google content network and target or place your add for that page only. This would be another way to get the weather crowd to see your solar stuff. Just a thought... |

I would never use a one-word keyword such as weather. Too general and it wouldn't be profitable. If others have bid on this keyword in the past, they likely realized that themselves so that's why nobody is bidding on that keyword. As astaga said, be more specific. Be more targeted. |

With adwords, they'd are pay for ads that have no financial benefit. It is a losing proposition to run an adwords campaign for that - but costs nothing to display ads on their site. The mix of ads displayed on the weather site are ads for niches that DO pay. kay

I actually get three sponsored ads when searching for 'weather' (via google.com, not Google UK). I can remember a time not so long ago when I would have got "Buy 'weather' on ebay.com" too |

No one is bidding for those words are the main reason.
