Hi warriors.. I am looking to start ranking one of my sites and I don't feel like paying people to do it.. I want to try it on my own but I don't necessarily know where to start. If anyone can give me a good starting point and lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it. If anyone has experience in ranking sites in google, bing, yahoo, etc and is interested in teaching me, yes I am willing to pay if you have the experience, I would be very interested. Thanks for your time!

Why don't you try examining sites that rank well for the kind of stuff you'd like to rank for both internal structure and links using a tool like ahref, opensitexplorer or majesticseo.

I wouldn't stop you from joining any coaching program or one on one coaching, but I suggest you read the free info provided by experts in WF. Once you learn the basics right, then you can understand SEO quickly and effectively by wasting less time on asking questions to your coach.
    Good Luck.

      ROFL at this thread

....People are swearing you can learn SEO right here yet half the people posting here even in this thread are using their sigs to cram anchor text links (which are nofollow anyway).

Lots of free places to get good info. There are some knowledgeable people here but I highly suggest that you look outside the warriorforum, there are quite a few people out there that build sites from the ground up, give you every single detail, and show you with lots of pictures..audio...video..and questions and answers. Its very easy to get lost here with people giving poor information. Here are my favorite places to visit..and if you pay attention on their sites you will get several other good places to look within the community.

Nichepursuits...perfect for beginners. My favorite site
Smartpassiveincome...probably the most known. Deals with the whole seo spectrum
Sourcewave..tons of good free info and videos. I wouldn't open my wallet though
Matthewwoodward.uk probably the best how to blackhat blog on the planet

The best place is entire Internet.

Type TOP10 SEO sites/blogs and read them. Most importantly, start practicing.

No practice = No chance in SEO and the sooner you start the better.

Also, take a look at those bad forums where people really like black colours...

To make it easier for you. Go to UberToolz and watch their SEO vids. That will give you some sort of solid overview. Another good places are GSA forums, Matt Woodward's blog and SEOunite.

Most SEO forums have sticky threads with the SEO basics and FAQs.
Plus, there are many free SEO guides online.
    One that's worth reading is
    Google's SEO starter guide
If you'd like an SEO's take on it, though, we have our own guide,
    SEO in Practice

In addition, you can subscribe to key industry blogs, such as Google's Inside Search blogs, Google Webmaster Central YouTube channel, Matt Cutts' blog.

The best thing to learn seo is to practice the bunch you read on the forums, blogs, articles and ebooks. The seo is a practice and as you practice the marketing modules your would have a good grip over them and by the passage of time you would be able to do good seo.

Honestly, I would pay an SEO expert to coach you on skype. You could learn a lot within 5 skype lessons at $100/hr. It's better than wasting hours of your time reading conflicting guides on the internet about SEO.

I learned so much about SEO that don't even use anymore. It would have been nice for people to tell me what to do. Knowledge is good. But it's best to know what works right from the beginning, so you can make money while you learn about other possible methods.

Lesson 1 - identifying hot keywords in your industry (keyword strategy)
Lesson 2 - organizing your website design and coding for search engines and visitors
Lesson 3 - creating and optimizing content (on-page optimization)
Lesson 4 - backlinks, sharing, and social media presence (off-page optimization)
Lesson 5 - analyzing your rankings and comparing your progress to competitor sites

    AND DONE!

If you want to do SEO for your own projects, it is better to start with keywords analysis. Choose keywords for which you want to be searched. Also take less competitive keywords. Once you have finalized keywords. Now start building links towards your site. Read moz beginners SEO guide or you can read single grains SEO guide. I hope this will help you.

There are lots of free and paid A-Z SEO guides available online.

When I started doing SEO, the first guide I read was SEO in Practice: SEO in Practice - Free SEO Book For Internet Entrepreneurs

Also, recently I bumped into a great up-to-date SEO tutorial that covers all the main aspects of website promotion:

A new comprehensive SEO guide â€" a free tutorial with the best SEO practices

In addition, there is lots of useful information on various niche-related forums, online communities etc.
