Have you continue to build backlinks to it? If not the most likely cause is that Google sees it as a new article when published... and this has a lot to do with timing... but then as it ages and no new links are pointing to it, it sees it as irrlevant. You have to build links to your article if you want to maintain your ranking. One good way to do this is by linking to it from other Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo, Weebly, Blogger, etc. or by commenting on other Do Follow blogs.

Hope that helps.

i had 6 approved today and all are on the first page for their keywords,i write 2 articles per keyword right away. How you write the article with LSI is very important now, thats what I have noticed anyways!

Think of SEO like a WAR. You have a small army? You will get easily defeated... unless your small army is like hard core dirty dozen special ops rambo kind of dudes. If you have a large army it will be more difficult to defeat you i.e. kick you off page one. You need an army of links to stay on page one. Keyword optimization will only get you so far.

Aw shucks. I had no idea we had to build links to our ezinearticles too. Thanks for this post Dennis. Now things I've been wondering about are starting to make more sense

Most people don't like doing that as they are building SEO for Ezine Articles, but on the flip side it is worth it because you can get an article on a PR6 site ranked a lot quicker than having the same article on a new niche blog with that same article.

You have to be doing all the SEO you can not just for your own site, but also for articles you want to get in the top pages of Google. The same strategy can be applied to Squidoo, HubPages, Weebly, Blogger, etc.

I love this metaphor. And not just because it's true.

Thanks. Glad you liked it. Best metaphor I could think of to describe SEO.

how do you check to see if your backlinking is effective and working; how long does it take for google to notice and about how many backlinks of pr6 & pr7 sites for an ezine article is a good amount?

There is no exact formula for that. Some niches might take 100's of links, while others may only require a few dozen. It just depends on the niche, keywords used, competition, etc. You have to figure that out on your own by testing, tweaking, testing, tweaking, and then testing and tweaking some more. Just monitor everything with all the right tools like Google Analytics.

Isn't it usually more backlinks than the top site for ex. if the page 1 site on google has 28 backlinks and you have 40 you will rank higher for it?

traffictipsnow: you can check the amount of backlinks a site has by using yahoo site explorer

Yep, keep on building links my man.

Just borrow down and link - blogs, web 2.0, anything so that you google can't ignore it. Link to your ezine article, and your webpage - you want everything of yours in the top 10!
